Well it won't be long now till the most expensive non-event in the history of the UK begins. It'll be interesting to see figures on how many people end up watching the running, jumping and limping event in the market square where it is being screened on the giant telly.
My prediction? Not many.

A lot of people complain about the amount of money spent on the olympics but surely most of the money spent has stayed in the uk. (I hope) Keeping building firms employing labourers, designers buying computers, security firms hiring staff. All of these people then spending their wages in pubs and shops etc. (even if they are foreigners)

You may well be right Andy. I read this today...
"...and if David Cameron visits Lord's cricket ground to watch the archery he will not be able to enjoy his favourite beer, Marston's Pedigree. Marston's, which sponsors the England cricket team, will have to remove its pumps for Pedigree while the archery takes place, to make way for Heineken."

You mean they're serving alcohol at the Olympics? This is terrible news. I thought the government were clamping down on the sale of dangerous alcohol to the population. This can only encourage the young to drink. Next they'll be installing cigarette vending machines. Still it's good to know that one very successful hamburger chain can supply nutritious fare to the athletes.

laughter and gaiety permeated market square on a grey and gloomy morning, expected to see philip there, probably saving himself for the afternoon festivities.

Hmmmn, so they recruit a bunch of school children to leave their place of learning in order to help publicise the big telly and what a success it is. Expect pictures in the local paper giving the impression that throngs of thousands of young Olympic hopefuls queuing up to train.

we shall always be in your debt for that paul, the only way west ham could recoup the money spent on him was to take his empties back to the off licence.

It's a national scandal to spend 9 billion on a sports day,
The taxpayers are paying billions to B&Bs and privet landlords.
This money could have built needed affordable accommodation all over the UK
Remember this madness was sighed of by new labour, and after the o,2 blunder to.
The wages for the build have mostly gone out of the country to Easton Europe.

I'm really trying hard to work up from total disinterest to level 1 apathy. But it's very hard.
And as for that other expensive non-event, well from the telly this morning I see that HMQ has a new toy for her bath tub.

Perhaps we can expect more Olympic sponsorship from BA now that it is only half as naughty as originally thought...

Well I am looking forward to it all, where is your pride even if you do not like sport like Barry it will be bringing a lot of people into this Country and that means money coming in which has to be good.
As already said on here it has provided work and jobs for British firms and yes it has cost a lot of money but a very large amount of that has come from the National Lottery. The stadium will be there after the event which will bring in more money by its continued use. So many of you are looking at what it costs and not what it will brings in, probably because you are not sport lovers.
Some like to knock the youth of our Country, well here is an event where the youth have trained for years to be selected (both able bodied and disabled) and they will compete with the best in the World. It also gives and will continue to give inspiration to other youngsters to take part in the sports they see no matter if they are brilliant at the sport/game they choose or not, is that so wrong?
This event should be bringing a bit of pride back into the Country and not the negatives I read on here.
Bring it on 99 days now and counting.

I hope that you are right about its effects Harry - but regardless, I cannot stir the slightest interest.
