That is one of the main issues with the NHS Howard Poor performance is often not managed even though the tools are there. Managers are often clinical staff who are promoted past their sphere of experience and skill HR support can be minimal and excuses for faliure are tolerated

when i saw it i just it was another attention seeker out to get on the telly, gordon brown would have known how to have dealt with the bigot.
Post 160 can I add to your suggestion about supervisors/ managers working weekends ,
Block any internet link to ebay , facebook, Amazon and Argos from any work PC , make smartphones and mobiles have to be booked into a central locker system and not accessed during work time , put the nurses station back into the middle of the ward ,not in the corridor leading to the bed bays . I could add more but it just makes me cross

that brought back memories sarah, about 4 years ago i attended the william harvey to get fitted with a digital hearing aid.
i had been waiting 18 months and despite my protests that it was causing a lot of problems with my work i was told they were inundated.
i arrived 45 mins before my appointment and noticed that the door was ajar and the technician was logged on to a car purchase website.
after about 15 mins i coughed loudly thinking he would call me in instead he got up and closed the door.

From an IT perspective it is fairly easy to throttle internet traffic to put staff off using it in company time, only needs a small piece of kit that is relatively inexpensive and someone to set up the rules of which sites get shunted down a small pipe and the work related ones that get the big fat juicy pipe.

so let's return to the paulw show post
with regard to vested interest
there is no doubt declararions of interest should be shown and have been, the problem here is, having had MP'S shown this interest and will financially gain from the reforms, surely then they shouldn't vote?
i'm unaware of any local forumites with any vested interests
but then thats just the ususal clouding of the issue by the conservative posters(some)

LOL - Keith - so speaks the master of clouding the issues....
I won't bang on again about poor performance and poor management in public sector organisations, just to applaud #161 and support #165 - Sarah and I know where we are coming from! And Howard, sadly it isn't just weekends and bank holidays (although they are the worst) even though neither weekends or bank holidays are a surprise and should be managed better. Poor performance is like a cancer through the NHS and very few people in the NHS are even admitting to it never mind addressing it. It has taken a government with the requisite number of sphericals to start a process...........
For those with the will and spare time, here is a link......

The government have a secret Register of Risks to the NHS if the Reform Bill is adopted.
Most government secret documents have been leaked............why not this one.................
The Register of Risks to the NHS should be in the Public Domain.

never heard of the register of risks, maybe it has to be kept secret to stop panic setting in with the public?

#174 Could be that there is nothing to leak as the information is already in the public domain, that is if there is such a document.

with you now reg, so there are two secret reports - one showing the reforms and another detailing the risks.
Risk registers are commonplace for all businesses including the NHS, HMPS etc etc etc. There is nothing sinister in them, they are what they say on the tin and facilitate planning to reduce risks.
I can only endorse everything Bern has said about a risk register every aspect of the NHS has them and has done for many many years under various governments. They are not a new process
