I'm looking forward to reading more about the proposals, Vic. It's important that Kent Council give us a chance to participate with our views.
I understand that CVT is not part of the consultation, as it would involve more, and not less costs.
But as for street lighting, I'm too concerned that turning them off would expose the public to higher risks.
We've read so much about people ripping out metal from places to flog it off, to give one example.
Then there is personal safety: car accidents are more likely in darkness.
The costs saved would be outweighed by the expenses incured in theft and accidents.

I thought the posting was:
"Participants must not work in market research, public relations, for a political party, the media, a county or district council. "
Been nice knowing you :)

I will try one more please keep to the proposals on the table and keep me out of it this way we will move forward Thank you Proposal is (A) Close down the Art and Sports Unit making a saving of £3millon.
The Arts Unit supports and develops the Arts in Kent,by providing grants to Arts organisations(net cost to KCC £2million)
The Sports Unit supports and enables the people of Kent to fulfil their sporting potential, for example through the Kent School Games. The Unit also leads the Kent Campaign for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to ensure that Kent derives maximum benefit and long-term legacy(net cost£1.4millon.
For the Proposal is =
Some feel that those who want to get involved in these activities should organise and subsidise it themselfs.
Some District Councils also support Arts Development in their areas, so support for the Arts across the County would not be completely removed.
Some feel that Kent businesses should take the initiative to make the best of the Olympics for themselfs, rather than relying on local Authority support.
Now for the Against.
Removing financial support to Arts organisations would have a negative impact on the local Arts community and tourism to the area.
Sports and Arts provide an opportunity for people to get involved and express themselfs in activities that they would otherwise not be able to.
The units lever in significant funds and benefits for the county.
Well that is what is on the table with this one.
Whatever....but fact is Mr Matcham is the only person at 70 years old who seems to do anything
I am truely beginning to think, as an observer, he is the only person who runs Dover and its views.....
Regarding the proposal.......I am sure street lightening is turned off...12 -6am will be fine.....I am sure people will adapt...................

I'm in favour of maintaining the arts and sports funding.
Why should so many football players get millions a year, and ordinary people who want to practice some recreation - or do creative art work - be deprived of facilities and some basic funding?

But please think about the cuts must fall some where within the proposals.so out of this we are looking for a £20million saving,so look at each one hard ,before you go for or against, the cut off is when we get to the £20million.KCC WILL MAKE THAT SAVING but they are asking the public where they think the saving will come from but that must be with the frame work of what I have already said.
Charlie. there were two people from Dover.
naughty me...................
I would be very sad to see arts and sports funding reduced or refused

A lot depends on what would be cut if Arts and Sport are not, if I had to pick one it would be the Arts and leave Sport alone
Charlie LOL

There was no overall vote taken, this what I am trying to put over ,(I must say I am not doing a good job of that) There is still time for you to have your say, into it ,this why I am doing this on the forum.I will email back to the KCC what you are saying for each of the proposals and hope that will help in which way the cuts are made.

Mrs Higgins. That is Ok that view was put over and it might go just like that, the way you have put it there would be a saving. As long as we reach the £20millon, it might work out that by just cuting parts of any of the proposals we can get to the £20million.
Tomorrow ones will be (1)Community wardens,(2)Regeneration(3)Freedom Pass.(4)Elderly people receiving home care.(5) Transport for children with special needs.(6) Home to school transport(7) Early years advisers)(8) Foster carers.(9-) Connexions (10) Highway maintenance. (11)Bus Routes.(12)Waste disposal (13) Vulnerable adults. (14) Libraries.
So you can see it is a very long list. but at this time i will keep it going .all the time there is a feed back.

sounds like a seminar, a lot to understand and form an opinion on.
agree with vic and jan about dimming the lights, not ideal but we all know cuts have to be made.
will await more details of what went on there.

Lots of roads that can do without streetlights, isn't that what we have them on the front of the car for ?
Been nice knowing you :)

my view is
unless i hear all 19 proposals there is no way i could decide which cuts could or should be made.
so for me no comment until all 19 proposals are known
ALL POSTS ARE MY OWN PERSONAL VIEWS

paul
pedestrians do not have headlights, where i live nobody in their right mind would walk on the pavements after dark with the current street lighting.
middle of the road is safest as things stand.

This is the list we have to work on tomorrow.
(3) Community wardens. (4)Regeneration (5)Freedom pass.
(6)Elderly people receiving home care. (7)Transport for children with special needs (9) Home to school Transport (10)Early years advisers. (11)Foster carers. (12)Highway Maintenance.(13)Bus Routes.(14)Vulnerable Adults.(15) Libraries. so somwhere in that lot we have to find a saving of£20million. but not tonight. Time I went to bed I am going over it again.

Sorry Howard, don't mean pedestrian type roads. There are things like the Eastry/Whitfield bypass that there are more than enough lights to only need half of them. I can see some of them from Deal so must be overkill ?
Been nice knowing you :)

You're doing a good job here, Vic, but the proposed cuts are unacceptable to me, I cannot morally take the responsibility of agreeing to any of them presented so far on the Forum.
As a member of the public of Kent, I propose my veto, and put forward the proposal to apply to Parliament for a one-off tax in Kent to collect £20 million for KCC to compensate the cuts.
Some of the proposed cuts are actually inhumane.
Vic, could you forward this message of mine to the County Council anyway, even if it is not within the context of the agenda?
It could still come under public opinion.
Thanks

I still have to write out the proposals in full, all I done last night was the headings later today the proposals will be on the forum in full.,and what you aske for can not be done.
Only street lighting is paid for by KCC not major or motorways.
