I welcome debate, of course I have a vested interest, but I started a thread about this project 3 years ago.
I'll be living and and working in this area regardless of any elections, I want what's best for the town. Paul and Roger, who appear on this forum when it suits them, are very evasive so I'll ask directly again:
Will the car parking at the cinema be free?
Despite what roger whines about Im NEVER personal, if you wish to take personally the failings of DDC sobeit.

there has been a lot of party political point making but i think this is a subject more important and of interest to all..
if moved to the politics forum a lot of people won't read it, kevin started this thread probably not expecting to see how it would go.

I'm with Vic on this thread. It's turning into shades of the old politics posts that were moved away. The nastiness aimed at anyone who disagrees with Mr Little is getting far too personal.
Well said Vic
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

Vic, with your recent calls to stop posting on a couple of threads and now your latest comment on this one are you now a mod?

"Will the car parking at the cinema be free?"
David, I doubt that decision has been made yet as we have not even got as far as the foundation stone being laid. When it is all sorted I am willing to bet the answer will be no.

Interesting Jan, that effectively puts up the price of going to the cinema.
Paul and Roger are regular contributors, I wonder why they aren't replying?

I'm sure the answer is somewhere in the fine print of the planning documentation. Anyone got the time or stamina to have a look? Ray??

As a non driver and M&S will be there I am more interested in getting a decent bus service to the area than the parking issue.
I seldom go to the cinema as I refuse to wear earplugs to deaden the deafening sound that is inflicted on us. DVD or On Demand through the TV often works out cheaper and only a few months later.

Why me?
Car Park Management
7.28 The car park will operate a short stay pay and display shopper's car park with a 4 hour maximum stay. The charge for the car park will be in line with other short stay car parks within the town. Between 1800-0800 there will be no charge to use the car park.
It's from a 33 page document at
DDC planning, just one of 61 associated with the planning application.

So it will be free during the evening then. Thanks Ray.

Whatever the car-parking cost arrangements, they will be known to all the businesses that have signed up and will sign up, so I am happy with those arrangements.
M & S and the others are all big companies and have branches in many other city centres all around the country and will have similar car-parking arrangements, so nothing odd with Dover's.
David, if I told you it was going to be free, or at a cost, you would have had a grumble' DDC and its Councillors can do no right in your eyes and all for purely political reasons.

You set me browsing Peter, one more before I head of to the shops and R of A -
The first document of the pack is on public consultation -
3.3 Bond City Ltd were advised by Dover District Council ((after a 2000 Town centre Planning consultation) that the public consultation carried out by them had shown widespread support for the redevelopment of the site.
They further advised that the public had made specific suggestions regarding the
content of the development, particularly a wish that it include leisure facilities, but the
District Council accepted at the time that many of these were either not practicable or
not viable. They were not part of the brief to the developer.
Seems with the appointment of Cineworld as one of the two main anchors, the public in 2000 had a better view of what was needed for the town than the council at that time or the developers!
Roger - biggest retail food competitor to M&S in Dover is Morrison's, 2 hours free parking, that surely must be a consideration?

Roger, I started a thread about the DTIZ more than 3 years ago, in that time not a brick has been laid.
More than 2000 local people, including the local conservative MP, signed a petition demanding to know whats going on. All you can do is bleat about the timing, political point scoring etc etc when the reality is DDC are utterly inept.
You said recently Charlie has his own reasons for signing the petition, I'll ask again - what are they?
I'll tell you what they are, he's trying to distance himself from a group of people that have spent £8.5m and achieved nothing

Has anyone used M&S's tiny car park in Pencester? Is it free, or if charged do you get a refund on purchasing something?

That area is owned by ASDA, Ray, so I can't comment on that. If ASDA or Morrisons, as their tenants, wanted to introduce car-parking costs, that would be up to them, I'm sure. It certainly would be up to DDC or Bond City, as neither are involved.

Terry, I believe M & S's car-park in Pencester is 50p for an hour - I think you might get that refunded if you spend a certain amount, but I have never tried for a refund as it's good value as it is.

My main concern is the net reduction in the number of spaces. And the 4 hour maximum stay will be a problem for people working in town who currently use the Russell St car park, especially season ticket holders, whose tickets will no longer be valid in that area.
