It doesn't Peter - otherwise the companies that have signed up, wouldn't have. Your comment almost sounds like you don't want it to succeed. If those companies are happy, shouldn't you be too ?

Of course Roger I want it to succeed. But at the end of the day viability is the proof in the eating of the pudding, and no amount of studies and projections can replace that. The key to success is to get many of the 15 million people who pass through to and from the port every year to stop and shop. Without adequate parking that ain't going to happen. Compare DTIZ with Cite Europe.

I don't think we can justifiably compare the two Peter - I take your point on parking and viability and (but that is a business case that those involved will make) certainly on the need to encourage as many as possible of those 14 million who pass through the Port to stop in the Town and spend some of their money.

The bottom line Paul and Roger, nobody believes a word you say when it comes to DTIZ.

No Roger we cannot compare the two. What a shame.

Mr Walkden.
Take it from me it does not. Many feel in Dover that this time it will take off.
When down at the show last weekend at the Western end of the port all that I talked to was saying at last something is about to happen, as I said the election has come at the wrong time,we are where we are and have to live with it the last thing we want to see is any major change at D,D.C. if that does happen it could put it back a year or even more .
The cllrs and officers there now know who they are dealing with and the companys any new faces could upset the balance it is moving at this time.

Thanks Vic.
I agree, we need people behind the DTIZ, not negative about it.
Perhaps David is shooting himself in the foot with all this negativity and people really do support what is going on - albeit at a slower pace than we would like.

Roger, David's views and those of the few thousand who signed the petition for a public meeting aren't negative, they are realistic - 17+ years in the planning, £8m+, just
3 of the 17 proposed sites signed up, and no guarantee yet that the CPOs will be successful, or when.
You also talk about getting some of the millions who travel through the port to stop. The first thing I (and most) do after parking on a long journey is look for the public loos - there are none on the plans and this should surely be the part of the answer to resolving Dover's relative lack of them (3 in total run by DDC, compared to 7 in Deal).

i must admit i hadn't noticed that on the plans.
on the subject of toilets in town there are a few establishments that get money from the town council for allowing people to use theirs, the problem is that most people are unaware of this.

Ray, I agree a toilet stop is why most people break a journey but I doubt those going on or from holiday will want to go see a film.
Howard, or like myself feel it is morally wrong to use an establishment without buying something, I have used a MacDonald's in the past and felt awfully guilty for not buying anything. There is also the need for these places to be open when one is crossing one's legs.

Thanks Ray.
The current DTIZ plan that we have on the table is 12 years - still far too long I agree, but this is the one that we have and is closest to fruition than we have ever been.
There is no reason why the CPOs won't be succeesful, all the legal teams have done their work properly, but I agree that nothing is guaranteed - nothing in this world is, apart from death and taxes.
Jan, I agree that people just stopping at Dover for a short time will not go to the cinema, but people staying overnight probably will and so will many residents.

i doubt that cineworld are expecting people travelling through to use their cinema, their forecasts would have been based on expected numbers from the dover catchment area - folkestone, deal etc.

Ray , Deals w/c's are run by Deal & Walmer PC's.
Deal has only two in town centre. The rest are in Walmer or parks as are the rest of Dover's , Connaught , Kearsney Abbey.
As you are aware Parish & Town Councils in the main now have taken over the w/c's since reductions in government grants.

my memory tells me that deal and sandwich town councils and the various parish councils agreed a deal with ddc a few years back paul, just dover town council not reaching agreement.

Ahhhh the old "you're being negative " card is being played by Roger again I see.
No I'm not I'm being critical, like the 2000+ who signed the petition we want to know what has happened to the £8.5m already spent and why we're no nearer completion.
The dover express have been in touch and want to run a feature on the thread on here going back to 2011, some of the comments made in that 3 years by district councillors are interesting, to say the least.
I notice that Cllr Watkins and Cllr Walkden have declined to answer my question about the car parking situation at the new cinema.
Lets not forget that DDC is so badly run even the MP ( same party, no political axe to grind) signs a petition demanding to know what's going on.

We are much nearer completion David - much nearer than we've ever been, I said so on my previous posting.
DDC is absolutely not badly run and Charlie signed the petition for his own reasons.
Your arguments are becominmg more politicised every day David and we all know why.

What were Charlie's reasons roger?
Perhaps at the 3rd time of asking you'll let us know the car parking situation at the cinema.
