100 grand a year will not go far if it is spread district wide, needs to be spent on areas most affected by port related activities.

Mr Waggott became quite angry with me when I pointed out in a round table discussion that £100,000 was less than 5 months of his salary. I had not intended him to hear but had not noticed that he was standing behind me listening at the time. I also expressed the opinion that decisions about the community fund ought to be taken after the community directors had been appointed, not before, and that DHB were putting the cart before the horse in doing it this way round. Community directors will thus have no say in the structure and initial set-up of the fund. I believe this is deeply flawed as all the important decisions (concerning the HRO also) will be taken before there is any community involvement in the governance of the port. At the end of the meeting I sought him out to offer an olive branch but was dismissed extremely rudely and accused of being personal in my comments.

Fully agree Peter, i thought the timing of the meeting was odd, no need for Mr Waggott to take exception to a valid point.
I don't really know how much money i was expecting to be made available for community use but it seems hardly worth appointing a community director with such a small amount of money to be responsible for.

Most disappointed to see no mention of the workshop in today's Dover Express. I would have thought it was of greater interest to Dover than news of a toddler soaking his house with a hose.

Hi Peter. The workshop and the decision to give the funding amount is reported at the top of the column on page 3 - funnily enough on the same page as the toddler story. Perhaps it captured your attention more than you thought...
The paltry funding level will be covered further in next week's edition.

Sorry I missed that. I was looking for more than 3 column inches.

Much fun and gaiety in Market Square earlier as Dover's celebrities gathered for the unveiling of the community fund cheque.
Phil Medgett welcomed me by proffering a friendly finger in the first photo.

Fun and gaiety? Damn must have been just before we arrived or just after we left, we couldn't stay long or I would have upset Charlie for backstabbing his constituents again over the bedroom tax vote on Wednesday.

Had a brief chat with Charlie, we have agreed to disagree over the bedroom tax issue - he is carrying on his campaign against Internet trolls, especially the anonymous ones that cause a lot of grief to others.

Never mind the Big Wigs photo opportunity and frivolity what is the money going to be used for is more to the point.
I suppose there is a new DTC or DDC department/ group that actually receives it,

I think Martin may be right here I thought there was something different about Charlie today.
It was a bit like when you are talking to someone wearing a syrup and however hard you try not to look for the join your eyes are drawn to it.

Re post 32, neither DDC or DTC will be involved in administering the fund, I understand it had previously been agreed that the Kent Community Fund would do this and Bishop of Dover is involved ( hence him receiving the cheque in the picture I believe)

When the cold war was going on between the two groups DHB. said Dover would get 5million is the £250.000 the first down payment? or is that all the town is getting.?

Thanks Pam for the clarification, I just hope we see something actually happening with it in Dover in the very near future.

might help if some of it was used to keep the roundabouts clear on the A20,.
