P, how can TBP and UKIP be respectively 10/1 and 125/1 in Dover when neither's putting up a candidate?

here's a thought - at the last GE in 2017 22,309 people didnt bother to vote here in Dover, that actually made them the second largest choice after the Conservatives:
Electorate 74564
Votes cast 52555
Didnt vote 22309
Result
Con 27211
Lab 20774
UKIP 1722
LD 1336
Green 923
This pattern is largely replicated across the UK, in fact there are 140 constituencies where non-voters were the largest group
Frankly whoever is able to mobilise the non voters for their cause stands to win handsomely

My daughter has said yet again she will not bother to vote and chucks any election waffle in the recycling unread. These are the people that should vote and politicians need to reach them or should they, as someone who has absolutely no interest in politics is unlikely to use that vote sensibly.

Did McDonnell just deliver another 3.5m votes to Corbyn?

I'm sure Labour won't underplay the Tory/Illiberal Technocrat coalition's creation of the injustice.

LMAO. The wimmin want equality with men and when they get an equal pension age (in spite of the fact that they tend to live even LONGER!) they start moaning.
The mother of my children is one of the WASPIE women. She was hardly surprised about the change since it's been talked about for the
last 25 years. Here's a background briefing :-
https://researchbriefings.parliament.uk/ResearchBriefing/Summary/CBP-7405
N.B. The Pensions Act
1995 provided for the State Pension age (SPA) for women to increase from 60 to 65 over the period April 2010 to 2020.
How stupid are these people that they didn't realise?
About as stupid as the Windrush generation who were too dumb or too lazy to regularise their status in the UK over the past half century?

I can see both sides of the WASPIE argument and as it does not affect me I will keep quiet on the subject.
My problem is with the amount Corbyn wants to give the women, just think how that money could could be used to the benefit of the NHS that Labour keep going on about.

I suspect you will find that the main complaint is the 2011 Act that accelerated the taper and increased retirement age beyond 65 as there was indeed significant notice of the 1995 Act

Indeed.
Though it appears that many a lazy man and his woman have missed the subtleties and still think it's about moaning 'wimmin'. How very stupid.

It was still 5 yrs before it affected any of these women and it was widely reported throughout the MSM at the time. Perhaps they were to busy planning their retirements to notice?

My daughter is the same. She quite genuingly said to me 'Mum, you have always said to me when its a big decision, if you are not sure, dont do anything' She is torn and now finds it easier to just let turn off from it. I'm at the point where I have had enough so fully understand why younger people are not going to vote.

I am a WASPI woman and to be fair I wished I had been able to retire at 60. I'm worn out and have infact lost a lot of time at work since turning 60. Hip and joint problems have made life difficult but I thought 'hey ho nearly at the end, I can get through the next few years' However, a claculater on the labour sight says I will get over £23k compensation. I have to admit I was tempted... I havent been on holiday for 8 years and my home could do with some work. But would it be fair on my great grandchildren to have to suffer austerity to pay for it down the line.

5 years, RB? Even so (and in many cases it wasn't even that), how long did most of you have? Nearer half a century, I'd guess. More, wouldn't you expect to be informed directly and personally by the authority making the change (i.e. the Tory/Illiberal coalition government) rather than a MSM that most sensible people had abandoned even back then? 5 years? My brain hurts like a warehouse.

The pension grab was an austerity steal, MG. The WASPI case is a fair one, and just.

Changes under the Pensions Act 2011
Under the Pensions Act 2011, women’s State Pension age will increase more quickly to 65 between April 2016 and November 2018. From December 2018 the State Pension age for both men and women will start to increase to reach 66 by October 2020.
Correction 4yrs 6mths: time from legislation made law and first affect of change.
Completely agree that the DWP should have directly informed those affected from both the 95 act and the 2011 act

Not a lot, RB. But, if memory serves, the judges considered most of the points to be outside the court's scope. The judgement's being appealed, though. (Actually, the October case wasn't a WASPI initiative.)

The noisy charisma of the local hopefuls is tiring me out. Everywhere you go you bump into some candidate mouthing off, thumping a tub, or shouting down an opponent. I do wish we had something more respectful, such as in West Bromwich East.

Hooray, let's hear it for those Great Women of British History! Theresa May unveils Plymouth statue to Nancy Astor, the UK's first sitting female MP, also known for her wit and er...
anti-Semitism.
Whoops!
No mention of this little difficulty by the impartial and very balanced BBC. Must be Laura's day off.
Still, I expect a full-on rebuke by the Chief Rabbi will be all over the papers and TV tomorrow.

Worth pointing out that Nancy Astor also disliked Catholics as well as Jews but not sure what it has to do with her having her statue unveiled.
Throughout history people have actively disliked various religious groups and unfortunately many still do, although now they have to be more discreet.
