Well the end of the month is fast approaching, and those interested will see a new mayor selected.
It appears Conservative R Walkden is up for mayor, against a labour party person not yet announced
Up for Dep Mayor is Charlies tea boy, Callum Warriner(his mum said its to late at night for him to be out lol) still to hear the labour nomination.
In sounds like from all the lobbying it's going to be a close vote.

No chance of the current one getting a well deserved third term then?

Seriously not sure why they bother and we could do without the additional expense of this.
It is nonsense like this that means Dover Town pays close to twice the amount the River does to run its "parish" council

Roger together with two other Town Councillors turned up at a Dover Youth theatre photo call during the big freeze a while back so credit where it is due.

Get rid of the town council making a saving of well over £700.000 per year.

So, scrap DTC completely (post 9) or, as per a post on a neighbouring thread, "just one office and one paid D.D.C. officer and a few parish cllr,s sitting in with him or her could run the lot". After all, The Allotment appears to have gained 4.6 stars with no input from DTC. Option 1 would mean no councillors, whilst option 2 leaves room for a few - possibly one in chains. Now I wonder what comeback kid might be tempted for a place on the shortlist, and what colour rosette he'd be wearing this time around...

It's about how decisions are made
post 9 was happy to sit on a number of these bodies unelected
but now wants them done away with
3 councils is to many I would prefer decisions to be made more local so I would go the other way do away with very expensive KCC and cascade those powers down to the other remaining 2 councils

I too would prefer decision making to be closer to the people impacted, but recognise that the only statutory responsibility parish/town councils have is the management of allotments.
Any additional responsibilities are delegated from higher authorities, which of course means they could be taken back...
What is required is a wholesale change in the structure of local representation and governance and the laws & rules that cover it; anything else is just tinkering.
There ought to be a move to smaller unitary authorities particularly replacing the existing county councils, with a comparable transfer of responsibilities to parish/town level. This ought to lead to a smaller number of councillors overall.

I thought there were plans to merge East Kent councils in the near future making effectively a unitary authority. Gone a bit quiet on the issue recently but I think it will happen.

Ross
I think we are on the same thoughts on this,,,,
I have always said 3 councils is to many.
If it means restructuring altogether ending with less councils and more local decision making I'm all for it
But it all takes so long and unlikely to change for many many years

The whole idea last year was based on the merger of four councils (which Paul Watkins seemed very keen on) . With Shepway not wanting to play
http://www.kentonline.co.uk/kent/news/kent-makes-super-council-decision-122740/ the whole thing seems to have gone on the back-burner.
I hate to think how much money was spent on consultations, officer time, consultants, glossy brochures, presentations etc.
My own view was/is that Canterbury would have ended up as the centre of everything obvs and that Thanet would have ended up as a money pit as we would end up funding Royal Harbour/Dreamland/Turner Contemporary/half of the population of the Balkan States**
**Since most of these were supposedly fleeing 'war', and NATO and the EU have spent a fortune in treasure and spilt much blood bringing a semblance of peace to the area, why the f**k they haven't been sent home, rather than continuing to sponge on my taxes whilst running protection rackets in Thanet, migrant smuggling from France and being behind much of the cocaine trade in London which has lead to the spike in shootings/stabbings I don't know.

Dover Town Council seems to me to rather like a fiefdom as it currently stands. Effective control is in the hands of a few who often seem to have a hidden agenda. It's a lot of taxpayers' premium for the sake of running a few allotments.

The whole thing collapsed last year when Ashford said no straight away (rightly concerned by Canterbury's debts and Thanet's 'unusual practices'). Shepway voted it down and that really left Canterbury, Thanet and Dover to form it - to say that it is not in Dover's interests at this present time is an understatement.

#18 - I defend my spelling but gladly take your pun. But why are so many of your fellow party members so happy to stand back and watch? The Deputy Mayor doesn't seem to be too concerned about anything.
