Didn't he shut India travel down nearly 2wks before announcing trade deal?

The critical two weeks where India was suffering a huge outbreak, of a new variant, he refused to put them on the red list because he wanted to go in person to meet Prime Minister Modi. In those two weeks, tens of thousands came into the UK - and that will lead to whatever happens next. By the time he eventually understood that he was never going to go, and did put India on the red list, the damage had long been done. Shocking judgement.
Final point, we still don't have a trade deal with India!

Re India, a case of shutting the door after the horse has bolted, nothing new there where Covid is concerned.

Yup, typical Boris as Keith keeps pointing out, far too late in doing something...................or far too early ............. or did too much ................. or not enough.
And obviously Boris (who single handedly makes these decisions) decided to allow free flow of contaminated Indians as he wanted to meet Modi and didn't give a toss about mortality as long as curry powder could remain VAT free..
If only we'd had such advice for Churchill during wartime telling him not only that other countries were fighting a much better war and that we ought to have an investigation immediately into the whole war and some of his 'chums' had been providing equipment for the army and obviously the whole thing is being run by Clementine anyway and thirty years ago he wrote something about 'wogs' so should'nt be running the country etc.

Rather like Neil, I'm struggling to find a reason why Pakistan and Bangladesh were added to the 'red list' on April 2nd but India not until April 19th. It couldn't have been anything to do with the so called trade mission that Laughing Boy had planned to that pillar of wisdom Modi, could it?
Welcome to the new global Britain, folks. Our PM, the genius that is Liz Truss et al are now hustling their way to trade initiatives like mendicant spivs. I wonder why?

Operation back cover is in full swing now. First, I notice the Telegraph is hammering Johnson for the "three day delay" between deciding to put India on the red list, and implementing it. This is of course an attempt to cover up, as Ray says, it was actually 17 days.
Second, the people of Bolton (and elsewhere) are being blamed for not having the jab. Of course, that's not without merit but should not deflect from the Indian trip nonsense.
My guess would be that we end up in a position whereby tomorrow's opening is generally blamed for the inevitable "Sorry folks, alas, I must level with you. We cannot open up on 21 June as the data from 17 May doesn't allow us." Again, deflecting from his clear error in letting the Indian variant in.

The more interesting dates to watch out for are 31 May when evictions start again and 30 Sept when furlough finishes and people find they are unemployed rather than furloughed + the 'extra' £20 p/w for those languishing on Universal Credit finishes.
Expect much wailing and gnashing of teeth!

Good to see Neil back the going after Boris (not without good reason )
But as the thread indicates the main opposition is as dire.
Bear in mind some Polls putting Starmer 17 points behind Boris.

Back to the more important issue - Tory party in turmoil. Subtitled 'what happens when you suddenly realise how your position on the world's stage has been weakened.'

Have practical policies rather than simply Tory bashing.
Get candidates that really care rather than see it as a career move, also choose them for suitability not just because of their gender.
