The press always have a reason to report something and are at the root of most of the publics apparent ire. No question that there are issues with the distribution and merit of wealth, but as has been pointed out, check out the people in the back seat with the spare steering wheel.

Are they really up in arms or is it just the paper reading twittering classes?
I suspect the majority are much more bothered about who the next England Manager will be, if beer is going to go up in price, does the girl on page 3 have decent t**s, which soap star is having sex with which other Z list personality etc.

Sorry Jan, I didn't mean to cause offence.
I know we don't all post on thinks we know lots about; if that was a restriction, there'd only be one or two postings a week - including mine.

couldn't agree more roger, if we don't give an opinion on a subject we have an interest in then we will never learn anything.
keeping quiet unless one is an expert leaves us all in ignorance.

No offence taken Roger, I think I got out of bed the wrong side even though the bed is against the wall.

#362 made me smile. And it is true. The Masses only get passionate about "issues" when manipulated to do so, on the whole. No disrespect, but as education is the liberator and many people do not receive what i would call a rounded education that encourages thought and debate and raises expectations, what can we expect?

# 362...........desperate stuff Ross..........not your usual standard.............
One more time...........the Big Six increase their profit on their last years figures.......
Next week their profit will be announced at...........£ 15 Billion.
Energy Secretary Davey says ``I want to see a more competitive energy market................what a good idea......
The campaign for profits to be shared with the needy is calling for a `Windfall Tax`
Big Six chase short term profit and shareholders dividends at almost any cost. The `free` market in energy just isn`t working.
Another suggestion to help every household is to axe VAT on gas and electricity............
You nay have missed the lefty point I was making, Reg. Without education there is no Peoples Voice.........

education and intelligence are two very different things, i have met people with masters degrees that would find it confusing to open the door and scratch their bottom at the same time.
knowledge of long words and corporate speak are no indication of intelligence, the rest of us are quite capable of reading a situation and drawing our own conclusions.

Agreed Howard, long and unusual words are often used a smoke screen by those needing to feel superior.

Roger is right, in as much that to suggest publicly there might be an energy cartel, could land one in the soup if an energy company got wind of it.
But Reg's posts seem to indicate there is something amiss in the energy supply UK, too much profit is being harvested. Only severe regulation from the State could put a stop to it.
Better would be to nationalise the energy companies and supply the poorer households with cheaper electricity and gas, and the wealthier households with more expensive energy.
This would also make people immune from landing in hot waters should a word slip out of their mouth on a cold, cold night and the tragic word ... cartel ... was jotted on a frozen keyboard and posted on the Web

Education is nothing to do with long words and all to do with thinking differently, about and through things, the ability to understand. education means growing and developing, and sometimes the vocabulary develops too, but that isn't the point. Without knowing stuff, to put it crudely, how can we hope to grow, challenge things and achieve?

i think roger there is a big difference between little knowledge, and having a different opinion.
now myself and barryw will rarely agree(although there are subjects we are close on, althougfh barryw would hate to admit it)
what we don't want is to go back to the days when the forum was seen as a break off of the tory party.
thankfully we have a number of posters who come from differing polititical or even non political backgrounds.
and unlike roger i welcome all posters(even the tory ones)

I just read Alexander's post #371 and I just laughed out loud...
That has to be the most naive post I have read in a long time. The idea that by some miracle a state energy monopoly would be cheaper for anyone just beggars believe and experience. To suggest that somehow a state monopoly could be immune from the world energy prices is absurd.
You are also obviously too young to remember the mess and horror of the old state monopolies Alexander. They did no-one any good at all.

I am in favour of people power. The customers and employees of the utility companies should ideally own them via a debt-funded mutual structure like Welsh Water.

Howard - it was the post I had a go at not the person. Sometimes something is said that is so totally ridiculous it deserves scorn.
