Like Jan no matter what party it should be the best person for the job, not just because your a woman!
If labour has to have discrimination to push Women it shows how out of date labour is in accepting everyone into the fold of the party.
We will see how many engage with the community after the election and not just at election time.
the community is as iv said before today aware of cllrs/candidates who live/work in the ward.
And those that have worked with the community assoc And those that have worked against it.
Thankfully that guy isn't standing this time round, although he probably wouldn't have got in anyway.
The cawca committee threw open an invite to all cllrs in the ward to give views on what they felt they wanted or could do for the ward.
Most had a vision.
but a few didn't.
we had to remind one to turn up !!! as we waited for her!!
and 2 didn't respond which we can only assume they have no interest in the community assoc.
Clarendon place is well known by anyone living in the ward (and probably outside it) but one didn't know where it was !!!
Without doubt few will argue that we have rarely seen the elected cllrs from DTC or DDC and with the ward becoming even bigger we are even more unlikely to see them(like now though we will see more of them at election time).
I think a lot of people are just not going to vote
or vote for one of the smaller parties/individuals.

Incredible that one of our elected representatives is unaware of Clarendon Place. Next thing they will ask is where the play area was.

Par for the course now with the anonymity of social media people make all types of threats and it has definitely got worse since 2016.

Although not nice I really do not think the above was bad enough to report to police. The lady concerned must be very sensitive if she is worried by that I read far worse every day.

Tory constituency chairpersons are reporting that the few activists out on the knocker for local council elections are getting so much abuse from their supporters they are refusing to continue.

Still no excuse for being rude to people Brian, these are local elections and it is a bit off if a hard working councillor takes flak from their own side due to the failings of the PM.

I don't think that has changed in 40 years
Nothing new
I have noticed candidates /cllrs a lot more sensitive these days
I was supposed to have said 3 years ago I didn't know who the lab candidate was and she won't speak or meet me
That's a choice
But she will be the only loser in E Vale

I think the national issues haven't helped
With brexit dragging on
But local politicians also need to engage
And I'm happy to challenge them when they dont
That's called accountability

To tell you the true I am not happy with DDC at present. I went to a scrutiny meeting in Nov 2017 with a petition to provide funds to improve parking at Aycliffe.. Guess what DDC has been chased time and time again. So far all I have is one meeting in January this year.. still waiting. I was told at the meeting some one would contact me soon after the meeting.. I wonder what definition of soon is in DDC.. They said it would be expensive but can find £100,000 for 16 beach huts art St Margaret’s but as for Aycliffe..

I received my Tory party candidate's leaflet today. So much rank hypocrisy in it that I was very nearly sick.

Got mine through also but I would have described it as smug and uninspiring, but they know they have controlled DDC without any real opposition for 16 years and unlikely to change in May.

I can never understand why people bother taking any notice of what is written in any political leaflet regardless of party, they are all full of exaggerations, lies together with that party is the better than any other.
Oh! I nearly forgot we can trust them.

I also got my Conservative leaflet - obviously lies, since despite the many, many pictures of Charlie, he was wearing a hard hat in none of them!
Seriously, I was interested in which 'achievements' got mentioned (e.g. preventing Labour's sale of the port to the French or whoever and securing the DWDR investment) and which did not (e.g. railway viaduct and medicinal cannabis). With 'smell what sells' in mind, who is this aimed at?

I noticed John Bird is standing in elms vale and Maxton
Those of you unaware j bird is the ex Dover Labour chair for past 35 years
Peter Wallace informed me over a coffee he was about to get rid of j bird teaming up with Mike eddy
I advised pw this wouldn't be a good move for a few reasons
1 John was a fair and good chair
2 he would be used by M eddy
John sadly lost the position but so did pw a year later!!
