[URL=]They are correct Howard as they are the ones spending it, they might not be funding it but the money is in DDC coffers.

The money may well be in DDC's coffers but it is ring-fenced for the Kearsney Project. If for some reason it did not go ahead the HLF would not say to DDC "never mind, you use the money for whatever you else you see fit". I think the implication expressed by the Governing party in their literature is pretty obvious and we are all supposed to be grateful for their vision and largesse (albeit that whenever they claim they are spending money for the district, they for some reason think we don't realise that it comes from our pockets).
The bid to the HLF was made by officers (albeit ratified by Council) which is why our three parks suddenly morphed into one (Kearsney Parks) because Kearsney on its own did not qualify for such large funding. No councillor, of whatever stripe, came up with the plan for Kearsney nor did they do any work on the bid. If credit can be given, it should go to the officer who had the original idea for the bid and the officers who worked on it.

I think this is correct on this project.
But there are a few active cllrs in some wards and you all know who they are and maybe just vote for them?
you can obviously
NOT vote(but then don't moan when say ones get in)
Vote for one of the 2 main parties
Vote for greens or independents against the 2 main parties
in my ward
we have no real choice
we have a sitting labour Cllr who will now have to rely on tory votes to get her in
as the ward has changed and where labour relied on the priory vote they can no longer do so as priory is no more and elms vale, is in the main tory.
We have a tory who goes on holiday far to often to Australia so missing for months on end
We have a lib dem who wont get many votes as there going in with tories at national level lost there trust.
but the votes they do get are more likely to come from labour than tory and could be enough to split the vote and take the seat off of labour.

New ward as we now come under Buckland and I know who will never get my vote, and the way I feel about the majority of politicians (local and national) at the moment I
might not bother.

Would be a pity if Ann Napier lost after all the work she has put in but I suspect that the Lib Dem who doesn't appear to know where she lives could nick enough votes for it to happen.

Mind you, one could always go colour blind and simply vote for the person you feel most likely to do a good job for you - though spotting that person from the literature is not easy, I'll admit.

If I do not vote it would be the first time since I became eligible, for local elections I have always gone by the person not the party hence my dilemma.

That's rather defensive of you, Keith. You were both deep in earnest conversation snuggled together on the front seat of the 102 bus last week.
