who would pay a living wage when there is a cheap pool of labour imported for them?
That's what they can't or won't answer Howard, we got there eventually.

this really is a general election budget, a chance for george to put money in the pockets of the voters, the one next year will be too close to election day for people to feel the benefit.

Ooh a penny off a pint, I'm sure like last year virtually no pub will reduce prices.
At the Fox they had a jar with pennies in and you could take out your money if you wanted to.

i see the budget has not inspired our members, no opinions as to what the chancellor should have done or comments on the outcome.
hopefully barry will give his appraisal in a day or so - the media comment on the eye catching stuff but miss out on things that are sneaked through.

I look forward to Barry's appraisal as well, the budget usually means give with big headlines but take away in the small print.

Wow! One pence off a pint of beer means that if you drank one pint a day over a full year (365 days) you would be able to have 3 free pints on February 29th (leap year)!
Not all bad then.....figures (based on average price of a pint being £3.65)!
Do nothing and nothing happens.

i always try to think positively, should one go out and down the normal 15 pints that person would be short of approx 40 quid and feeling like death warmed up but would be 3 bob better off than if they had gone out before the budget.
