Zut Monsieur! You have exposed our cleverness as there would be no things happening and we will all starve after many weeks unless you all raise the white flag and open some soup place to help us.
You should be presentdent.

Can’t disagree with anything you say WGS, but at least an out and out europhile like Robbins will hopefully not be leading our exit ‘negotiations’ this time round. I don’t particularly care too much if there’s “ jobs for the boys “ ( as there always has been and always will be ) as long as they do the damn job that they’re paid to do whilst in office.
But you’re 100% correct about the cronyism, Clegg is a classic example!

And that is just exactly what all the remoaners are hoping for Brian, just to be able to say “ we told you so “, but unfortunately for your side, given time, Brexit will be a success and we will all wonder why we didn’t leave umpteen years, which we should have done!

I remember back in the 90's getting chicken breasts that came from the Philippines so why not in the future.
The USA can go take a jump if they do not like our trading terms the rest of the world might like the chance to trade with us.

Very true Jan and the point being is that ultimately it will be OUR choice to source whatever we want from wherever WE decide.
I notice that Tesco already use chicken from Thailand ( just up from the Philippines ) which seems to be ok!
UK chickens vs Thai chickens
Space: UK: About 20 chickens per square metre.
Thailand: About 14 chickens per square metre
Breeds: UK: Fast-growing breeds such as Ross 308, whose bodies grow too large for their legs, causing lameness in some
Thailand: All of a genotype that would be marketed in the UK as "slower growing."
Rest: UK: Four hours continuous darkness a night
Thailand: Six hours continuous darkness a night
Standard UK chicken production, which accounts for 80 per cent of UK market. Source: RSPCA, Assured Chicken Production

We used to buy frozen chickens from Brazil from Bookers for the business. All corn fed and under two quid for a 1.2 kg bird, very tasty they were too. They are still available although the price has gone up somewhat.

It’s refreshing to know that the main attraction to Thailand could be their chickens after all the shenanigans that we read about!
Also no need to over indulge ourselves with the local Pheasants and wild venison in Sussex or make plans to up the search for road kill either it seems.
Looks like their are some other plans afoot for the leg lovers amongst us.
Just chlorinated swimming pools to raise our concerns now!

I don't know about anyone else, but I have found it impossibly difficult to understand the Irish elections!
What I did find interesting is the Telegraph going into meltdown about a proposed mansion tax. I think for a long time, traditional Tory voters have assumed Brexit will just somehow happen and everything will be okay. But, with everyone agreeing that there will be an enormous upfront cost, it'll be fascinating to see how they feel about actually paying for it!

I guess it, too, hasn't yet realised that the Conservative Party isn't any longer a conservative party.

Oh dear, he seems to have got it into his head that we're an island! Checks - of course, at the border (and we're talking Eastern Docks and Cheriton here, not, for example, the Motis facility) - as few as possible. At this rate it stands to be wholly avoidably worse than what we had before completion of the Single Market on 31.12.1992 and what the French are preparing now.
I do so hope that this is sloppy journalism, but...

My apologies for the link; when I posted it, the article was all about Mr Gove and not at all about alarm regarding "perishable" (ie. 'unrefrigerated' - unless you have an axe to grind) produce.
100% of trucks and their overall loads will have customs checks pre- or post-crossing or during it. My beef is with customs declarations and checks on individual consignments; as we speak, most food/plant/public safety checks (on goods from non-EU countries) are performed inland, at places like Motis or near to the journey's end. Why on earth would any reasonable person seek to have them at the border? Oo, I feel a JR coming on!

The narrative is changing. It's now becoming "we've always said it isn't going to be easy", ""there will be problems early on" etc. But now they have an 80 seat majority, no longer need to hide it.
