It was known about before the week before we went into "lockdown"
Can you imagine the headlines if the government had announced it as a symptom and it was proven not to be?

Considering all the different symptoms that seem to go with this virus surely the more that were/are promoted the better especially when it is members of the medical profession giving the information.

Deputy chief medical officer Professor Jonathan Van-Tam explained the change, saying it was important to "introduce it at the right time when we think it's going to make a difference moving forwards to how we pick up cases".

Oh please. Virtually every developed country had been including anosmia as an identifiable sympton for weeks. Were they all so precipitous in their judgment?

For God's sake Ray which bit do you not understand from what JVT said?
PLEASE show evidence that ' virtually every developed country' etc or are you just making 'facts' up?

Sorry I know I am only a thick old lady but I can not help but wonder how many cases if not deaths might have prevented the unknowing infected from spreading the virus if this had been publicised ages ago.
Maybe time to explain why now, could it be simply that more people are mixing with others, I guess better late than never.

This anosmia explains much. How else can the government have missed the high scent of dodgy science and continue to chew on its maggoted meat?

Not at all Jan, that's why we look to experts for figuring out the best course of action, much like the government.
From my perspective its late inclusion is because it is down the list of symptoms alongside headaches, aching muscles and sore throats, I have at least 2 out of 3 a couple times a week.

Dodgy science? Science is science is science. Fact and data based.
The interpretation is the difficult bit?

#630 I understood it all. Unlike you, however, I've learned not accept everything that comes from the press conferences as undisputed scientific fact.
There are 17 other countries including (believe it or not) the US who have included anosmia as an identifiable symptom of Covid 19 before our reluctant acceptance of the facts. If you want to all the names, go to the WHO site.
The professional body for ear, nose and throat specialists (ENT-UK) have been calling for eight weeks for anosmia to be listed as a marker for asymptomatic carriers. It issued a joint statement with the British Rhinology Society (BRS) on 20 March, it said. “We estimate that many hundreds of thousands of patients in the UK have developed anosmia as a result of Covid-19,” (Prof Claire Hopkins, the BRS president.)
Every country relies to a degree on scientific data and analysis. In the case of this Cumming led government, it appears that we have chosen a different interpretation from the majority in making many key decisions. The results of this are obvious.
Please tell me, Cap'n, which bit you don't understand.

Top Tip Tesco.
Tell the guy at the door that you are 'only' going in to pick up a prescription at the pharmacy and he'll let you avoid the queue and you can do your shopping without queuing. ☑️

I prefer to adapt his name to a singular form. Somehow it seems more appropriate.

Nope. For beer you need hops, starch, yeast and water. But the different varieties and qualities of hops, starches, yeasts and waters will affect the quality and flavour of your brew; but sure as hell if you then run your brew through a dirty muslin bag, you’ll get a dirty beer.
What? ‘Epidemiological modelling isn’t like home brewing’, you say! Well, how about weather forecasting (see, e.g., Dr John Lee, BBC World at One, 12 May 2020)? There have been many demolitions of Ferguson's play kit, but this is a decent summary of some of its history:
https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/six-questions-that-neil-ferguson-should-be-asked
Of course, it’s not Ferguson’s fault: death’s his business, so the bigger the figure… No, the fault’s with the incompetents who ‘followed the science’, trashed a way of life, and won’t own up to their mortal, catastrophic mistake, but carry on regardless with their discredited policy.

Science is rather like statistics you can often choose the outcome you want according to the question or hypothesis of the subject.

So much for privacy, if it can happen once it could happen again. Ross in #515 has been proved correct,... " the fact that they have outsourced the "track & trace" call centers to Serco to name a few."

Recommended listening for anyone keen on factual analysis of the current situation rather than bluster and waffle. The sort of programme that the BBC does best and it exemplifies why the current government is so ambivalent towards it.

Looks like satire was a victim of covid-19 too.
The slave mentality in these various accommodations (e.g. publicans developing one-way systems, perspex-divided seating areas, and mobile phone distance-ordering; 2-metre square child-boxes in school playgrounds) makes me gag.
And self-subjugation isn't even in the coronavirus regulations.
