Possibly envy, jealousy or just plain sour grapes from our ex-MP.

mmm yes sounds like a cross between a tv show [yes minister] and a well known catoon strip [peanuts with charlie brown].

Early days......but he has a certain energy, the last MP lacked...
If he can get this town off its Gluteal region....it will certainly make his name known......also.............ofcourse, the People's Port which he has put his signature to....................
Otherwise it is Boris..............ofcourse............

Cameron must be very worried with all these new intake jockeying for position, this together with boris, and others.
i think it a little unfair of gwyn as charlie has as much chance as boris, and soon the hats will be thrown in the ring for the bun fight.
of course charlie wont want to blot his copy book so will probably sit back, but theres a danger tha things could go wrong for him, so only time will tell.
of course charlie does have to keep one eye on the constituency seat that is very marginal, but charlie could be helped if gwyn continues to support a woman candidate being imposed on labour supporters at the next election.

It will be years before there is a leadership election and whether DC's successor will be from the 2010 intake of MPs or someone else is impossible to say. Glad to hear though that Charlie is making an impression in The House as he certainly is here in his Constituency. Rather undignified comments from someone in the position of our former MP I thought, but true to his form.

it was disappointing from gwyn, o.k. for the flak to fly about during an election campaign but not over this issue.

lets not deflect away from the thread, gwyn lost the seat times have moved on, hes not standing again(even if he were allowed to)
is he the voice of the labour party any more?
i think it was a little sad he made these comments, whlst no fan of charlie, if he manages to hold seat next time round(and thats a big if) then he should do the best for himself/country/constituency.
i hope the local labour party will get more involved in positive campaigning in the future, what they would do if in power locally/nationally etc.
not press releases saying how nasty the tories are, we know all that, we want to know what labour would do differently.
of course this goes for other parties neg campaigning to

couldn't agree more keith the reds are a shamble nationally and if they insist on a ladypersons only short list locally they will be annihilated.
i don't know much about the internal workings of the party machine but surely gordon cowan is the obvious choise of candidate for next time unless a great new talent emerges.

HOWARD;
My own personal view is that labour should open all its doors and not go for woman only lists taking out many credible candidates.
on gordon, hes a good friend of mine, but iv advised him he would be better locally
the express did him a lot of damage.
my understanding is that the local party has not opposed the woman only list in fact they are also pressing ahead with women only lists for the county elections in some seats.
iv never mised putting my x in the box
will come hard to me

Normally I couldn't give a flying what not who becomes leader of the Raving Loony Party but should this happen to Charlie then it could benefit us. He will have to use the intervening period to prove his credentials and, if he can make a difference to Dover by so doing, then that might be good news for us in Dover. Dover has been ill-served for as long as I can remember (back to Peter Rees) and it would be good to have a dynamic, committed MP who makes an impact.

so do i but charlie is no better than any of the others.
peter rees was a peoples person one of the few tory mp's to be so although he got caught up in later life in something around a sleaze
but as an mp he did the business.
just like on the labour side david ennals was one of the better dover mp's
the characters are going out of politics, to much matters on looking good for the press etc
thats why people like boris stand out who doesnt worry about these things

I don't claim that Charlie is any different but that his desire to climb to the top of the greasy pole may be of benefit to Dover as he will have to prove himself. By proving himself his constituency may be a beneficiary.

Charlie is proving to be an effective constituency MP and that is all it is reasonable to ask of a new member. Keith, you say he is no better than all the others yet I can see a number of things he has helped to bring about; while none of them are his sole achievement (nothing ever is in politics), most of them would not have happened without his rattling cages in Westminster/Whitehall.
I can see his involvement in the Peoples Port, an initiative which the majority of Dover's population support. I saw him being instrumental in raising the case of a constituent at Foreign Office level which led to him being released from trumped-up charges in Kabul. He has taken up a number of cases where the NHS has let local people down grievously. He helped to get high speed trains through to Deal and Sandwich and he, Paul Watkins and Laura Sandys have succeeded in getting the Pfizer site designated as an enterprise zone.
Perhaps Keith could tell the forum what Charlie ought to have done instead of the above. Certainly none of his predecessors did as much for the constituency in a whole parliament as Charlie has done in his first year.

i understand with your membership/support of charlies party that your comments would be as they were.
some of the issues you raised were also supported/lobbied for and gained by both the previous mp, and many others.
