15:5630050One of the best used services, and with a very elderly population, has just learnt that STAGECOACH is to withdraw its bus service via Clarendon/Maxton.
Using the latest excuse the bottom of the hill in Clarendon Road isnt able to be negotiated by the buses.
Certainly talking with SHIELA this morning a campaign is to mounted on this including a public meeting.
Should STAGECOACH be allowed to get away with this cut back many people of all ages will become housebound.
The council was looking at ways to overcome this problem, but it appears at a recent meeting of Dover Joint transportation even mr Collor and the officers have caved in and put no objection forward.
I hope that all us regular bus users and forumites such as SUE ShielA Roger etc will join forces to campaign against this backward step
Once again if this is allowed to happen PRIORY will be hard hit.
JOIN THE CAMPAIGN TO KEEP THE MAXTON BUS SERVICE

16:0230052I have friends that live up that area and would be stuck or rely on taxis to and from town without that bus service. The bus is always heaving with passengers in the mornings with oap shoppers. I suppose Stagefright would think twice if they were all fare paying passengers but because they use their passes there willl be no significant loss in revenue nor will it effect their cash flow but will be another 'saving'.
Another example of privitisation replacing the word 'service' for 'profit'.

17:4430059this will leave many older people housebound, if true.
be assured that there would be a rather nasty backlash from people around here if this came to pass.

18:2830064Marek hits the nail firmly on the head: profit is master in private companies. Social and service issues are not a priority. Privatisation only works in areas where there is no human vulnerability.

19:1530072Keith I think its todo with only those very small buses can get round the route .Those buses are coming to the end of their life span .We will have to campaing for stagecoach to aquire small busesThe ones used on the other routes cannot get up to Clarendon Now if more notice had been taken of my question at Full Council ,Cllr Collor and his friends should be looking to ways of getting some parking .If just a few of those parked cars could be off the roads the buses would get through .There have been one or two sites which could have been used .Many years ago and how gtateful you Labour supporters are i won the fight to get trhe car park opposite Gwyns Office .For those of you who like to slag me off I have won a few battles for Dover People ..

there has been little problem of late getting up clarendon road, double yellow lines on one side have done the trick.
a lot of those parked cars could be put inside the empty garages that abound up there.

22:0330092Bern ,how do you suggest my comments are written .How can I note I get over the fact I asked a question .It wasnt someone else .It wasnt someone else who got the car park .When I speak in the plural sense it would be We ,not I
Get my drift or is that our .
Perhaps when one has been single for years it is the norm to say I .There is no we in my life anymore .For twenty years it was We now its just me so its I If I accept an invite it is I .

im sure some labour supporters would like your getting the parking in coombe valley, me i walk or get the bus most of the time so unaffected
To get back to the subject;
HOWARD
It is fact this subject was raised and officers clearly stated bus was to go in May.
I dont want to remind anyone about the public transport liaison sub committee who raised the issue sue raisesb some 5 years ago or more.
So obviously nothing happened, council back tracked, politicians we rely on to fight our corner caved in.
Well Sheila looks like a tough battle ahead

07:3130105I don't know what to say; I know this has been on the cards for quite a number of years now and many times I have asked why it is that no authorities around the country have not lobbied Stagecoach (or their own local bus company) for smaller low-floor buses.
There must be Town and Cities all over the country with streets like Clarendon etc. so there is a need, but no demand.
The builders of these buses are not going to design and build smaller buses just for Dover are they, this needs nationwide support - from all local authorities.
I am on the Joint Transportation Board and receive all the literature from DDC, but I have never seen or heard anything about taking away the bus service round there.

07:4030107ROGER
This has been raised many years ago and both the council and stagecoach knew this day was fast approaching.
officers planned to help with the road layout to enable bus to negotiate hill(all after these years came to nowt)
I feel so let down by both STAGECOACH and Dover District and kENt county officers and cllrs who are suppose to represent us.
Time was there to look into this service and promises made, all came to nothing
and again come MAY constituents within PRIORY MAXTON and ELMSVALE will lose there bus service.

08:5630125there was a movement to make the clarendon area one way, but nothing seems to be happening at the moment.
kent highways were looking at it, and there was a petition locally with a massive number of signatures.

11:5230140speaking with Shiela yesterday it appears many of our elected reps are unaware these problems are out there.
I will be helping sheila with her campaigns on ;
1; cutback and withdrawn maxton bus service
2; clarendon one way
3; Priorys long lost play area(gone quiet again, well roger?)

19:0030144having spoken to many local people today, they are all clued up.
our councillors(district and county) and the local press can expect a steady stream of phone calls, letters and e mails.
