12:1286943On to it already John
I trust that the broken mail box has been reported by the Sub-Postmaster or maybe one of the local Disrict Councillors for that part of Dover

13:1286953nigel refers to the appalling behaviour of a driver in post 38, according to the press the mother seemed to think it was o.k. to cross the road with her daughter where she was.
this is not the case, there is no marked crossing there and it is on a bend.
people do cross there(myself included) but only when there is nothing coming, which is not the case in this incident.

13:1786957Come on Howard - you still don't just drive into them as both reports suggest.
As you say, lots of people, you and I included cross there. We need to look towards full pedestrianisation in that area at least between 10am and 4pm. and necessary enforcement.

13:5286960From nigel's post #38
"I once spoke with a senior local police officer on this and his reply was surprisingly - 'They are safer there' - my reply was not to elderly and young pedestrians where they came from behind."
That policeman should be sacked or at the very least reprimanded, he is there to uphold the law not blatently ignore it.

No wonder some cyclists think they can do as they like.
I could have caused a serious accident the other day to an on the pavement cyclist that I did not know was behind me. I was walking near the kerb and when I suddenly decided to cross the road and he had to swing out into the oncoming traffic to avoid me therefore they are not safer on the pavement. BTW this was near Morissons and we all know how fast traffic can be in that area when they speed away from the lights.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

i am sure that you realise i am not condoning the behaviour of the driver, just simply pointing out the irresponsible behaviour of people that walk out in front of traffic frightening the lives out of drivers.

16:1086980missing nigel;
in reply to the pcso powers they already have cyclists powers but its about the priorities.
also i share your view reference the general powers but you need to understand the role of a pcso, they are not policepeople doing the job of a pc
nor should they.
so you have to draw the line on some powers, if you believe in the role of the pcso.
they should not become cheap policeman
but should be part of the community.

12:4987241Thoroughly agree with you Keith.
I was once told that there are 36 powers that PCSO's can have but Kent have only adopted 6 of them - is that right Keith?
PCSO's are doing a great job in Dover.

in reply, it is understanding the role of the PCSO kent is slow to adopt many of the powers, but with some of them with good reason.
the main thing that shouldn't happen is that PCSO's beciome cheap police people which is the danger if some of the powers are introduced.
also like any job there are good and not so good PCSO's the present one in priory area is new, keen, and doing well, long may it continue.
PCSO's can at present fine cyclists.
maybe a way forward if people fell so strongly about the issue is;
1; write to the local superintendent
2;write to the chief constable
3; attend police public meetings, and get cycling on pavements as a high priority
if that's what you believe you want, but also be ready with answers as to what
you want to cut to achieve it.

13:1587246Thanks Keith
As I said, I agree with you about PCSO's, I have no problem with any of ours in Dover as they are all doing a great job.
I would like to see the paperwork cut so that all at the Police Station can be on the streets whether they be PCSO's, PC'and even higher ranks

13:2987253Some car, lorry & bus drivers do not take due care and attention to cyclists. Some cyclists don't take due care and attention to pedestrians. Some pedestrians don't take due care and attention to both cyclists and drivers.
If something can be done to highlight these problems, then action should be taken. Through media, to educate and deter and through police and courts, to punish and deter. These acts are both illegal and anti-social.
One life saved is a sucess
But it's not All, drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
There would be accidents and bodies all over if it was done by All.

13:3787256PCSO's doing good job in Deal as well.
It cant be an easy job for them and they need as much support from the communities as the communities do from them.
