Thought I would set up a dedicated thread as this regularly comes up, although I fair to see how !!
I know Deal had overdue investment in the pier but what else have we had?
The example before has come up that the town is tidier, but I think that is because the people of Dal are more respectful to their surroundings?
Let's have some examples.....
Been nice knowing you :)

Paul,
I too am confused and I have to be honest to say I have not heard of this before now.
The only thing that I could say that Dover has, in preferential to us, is that we should have our own Job Centre back.
Other than that, the towns are very different in many ways but that is down to the people of Deal and not because of preferential treatment by the Council.

where to start?
i was over there yesterday for a few hours and can make a few observations.
definitely seemed to be more bins in the centre of town than in dover, maybe deal town council supplied them?
the traders definitely make more effort to make their premises attractive than ours do.
i noticed a planter that had been sponsored by the town council and a business, has to be a good thing.
will have to think up some more, that just to be going along with.

Maybe the difference is with the two Town Councils, one forward thinking the other just sitting on its a**e seemingly doing almost bu**er all.

Deal still has an active community spirit. That is the key difference. Dover, for all the many well-meaning people in the town, seems to have lost that somewhere along the way.

the two town councils get a mention here, from what we read on the letters page of the local press the one at deal seems to be a nest of vipers, personalities taking over from achieving things.
our own town council seems to be working in harmony but without much apparent improvement to the town.
most of us are of the opinion that our town council and the district council do not work well together, is it that deal town council does?

I seem to have misconstrued this thread;
I thought it had evolved from another thread via Paul's
"People are already moaning that Deal gets priority over Dover (though I cannot see it) post."
And Keith's reply to said sentence.
I took the "Priority" to mean, Deal was getting preferential treatment from DDC.
All posts in this thread, seem to be referring to what Deal TC and deal residents are doing in the town for themselves and our community.
Surely, the people of Dover has the opportunities to do the same?

Howard.
I do not think you are correct in your statement"
"Deal seems to be a nest of vipers, personalities taking over from achieving things". Even if you are just quoting it from local press.
If you have read the stories, you will have noticed that those accusation's are coming from mainly one person, the same person who has lost out in the last couple of Town election's(sad loser) and does rather contradict your #3 post.

Yes I am meaning DDC Gary

.
It regularly comes up that DDC prefer to 'help' Dover more than Deal, but I cannot see it....

have to disagree gary, unless my memory is incorrect i remember someone being reported to the standards board of england by a fellow member, the town clerk being reduced to tears and the various press letters(not just from one present councillor).

Howard.
Your memory is only half correct, the standard board rejected all claims.
They were not made by a fellow member, nor did I say he was a present councillor.

gary
i only said reported, the point i am making is that a fellow council member made the complaint.
the chap i see writing in the local paper was a councillor as i understand it and everyone takes a pop at him over his attendance record amongst other things.

Howard.
The person, mostly, making the unfounded accusations, is not a councillor.
The councillor that was cleared of all accusations has now resigned.
I know him personally and he could not attend every meeting as he works on the ferries but he far exceeded his duties from missing these meetings by catching up on what was discussed and taking action, by walking the streets and talking to business and residents, listening to their complaints and trying to deal with them, his resignation is a loss to Deal.
In line with this thread, his reasons for him standing down was his dissatisfaction with DDC towards Deal.

In deed you do Sue.
It was a very pleasant evening at the Grove, wonderful host's that can teach us all a few things about community life, a lovely meal, a great chance to network and a lovely speech from you thrown in as well.
It is nothing to do with who we vote for, it is All about what we can do, to better our communities, for everyone in those communities.
You and many other's(you know who you are) do a great job, the only way forward is together.

Other than the Pier which I stated in my initial post, what else is there ?
Considering people always say DDC are biased towards Deal, no-one is backing up the arguement very well....

Been nice knowing you :)

I have not heard anybody say DDC is biased either way, but have heard them say that Deal appears cleaner and more looked after than Dover.
