16:3967424hello
my computer died yesterday so I am trying to contact someone from the computer club that used to be. I am sure the man was Alan Taylor and he lived in Aycliffe but I cannot find him on BT numbers. Does anyone know of any good computer men?
I have bought a new laptop but would like the other repairing.

17:4367440alan has been ill recently and sounds like he needs a holiday, assuming that we are talking about the same alan taylor.

17:5567445yes most likely, he must be quite old now as I have not seen him for about 10 years. But I wonder if there is still a computer club as those boffins were great they had all the sofware, there were about 5 others in his gang they often used to pop round to look at my computer and drink A LOT of beer

18:3167450You could always try Dave at DRT Technology in Priory Street; they do home visits too.
Their telephone number is 202622, or call in and tell him what the problem is.

20:0567479DON'T use PC world Anne!!! They are the stuff of nightmares......if you can't wait until Alan gets back, try James Warren. 01303-770216. He is top notch, but more expensive than Alan; on the other hand I cannot recommend him highly enough, he's been doing my computers for years and he's the best around. (And cheaper than PC World)
True friends stab you in the front.

22:3267529I had a sound card disappear at DRG. I'm not accusing, just saying it was there when the PC went in, and wasn't there when it came out. I don't use them anymore.

06:3467552Is that a different company to DRT in Priory Street ? I've always found them very helpful and value for money - their printer carts are good prices too.

08:2967576I might have got the name wrong Roger. I also tried their cartrdige refill service, which was very cheap and appeared to be good value. The problem was the ink flow from the refilled cartridges was horrendous and, to stop me having unwanted ink everywhere in the printer, I had to throw the two cartridges away and buy new ones from PC World.
Consequently, I no longer use cartridge refill services.

08:5567727I went to Dave at DRT. He was marvellous, wonderful, brilliant. He went into the programmes and said he could do a sytem restore which he did, then he checked and updated my anti virus.
You may remember I had been to pC world where the guy said it needed a new motherboard and said it would be £160 or he could come round, take it and the new computer away(would I ever see them again).
Because of what the PC world man said I bought a new lap top, of course they sold me software and bored me rigid until I agreed to have their monthly service total £460.
I took the new computer to Dave who reset it to factory settings and even wrote me a lettter to take to PC world about their mis diagnosis and corrupt selling tactics should I need it.
In total he charged me a mere £20. Very fair indeed.
I then went to Ashford PC world as I was so angry about the chap in Canterbury where they gave me a full refund and will be reporting my situation.
I have always gone to PC world before or Staples. Now I will NEVER go to PC world.
Andy Cooper was right they are a rip off and ripped me off good and proper.
THe most amazing thing with all this running around was that I was trying to contact anyone who could help, one of these being a good friend of mine who was head of ICT at a local school. I had lost his phone number from years ago and he had changed his mobile. When I zoomed into the car park at Ashford I practically ran himover!!so we spent a happy evening catching up with all the news.
DRT DAVE wonderful, very clever. Thank you The timing turned out to be amazing.
