25 years is answer
but without the planning dept wanting things to move forward unfortunatly the OFFICER run council will continue to see Dover's decline.

Still nothing POSITIVE to suggest then Keith?
25 years overseeing the decline of the town and all you can do is blame planning.
Like I said, politicians are a waste of time and money.

This could get interesting Keith, I read that as though planning DON'T want the town to move forward. Do you believe that?

Firstly David I;m not in a political party and obviously have leanings towards one party if the were to get there ars* in gear
that said, like yourself I have been, and still am involved in a number of community projects all that could be sais are the job of the casj strapped councils, but none the less as a volunteer I have over the years just got on and done it, as I do today.
Thankfully I don't have to answer to you(nor would I )
But the planning dept has a major influence on what may/may not happen in Dover, of course there are others, and as suggested in within this and other threads a number of groups are working for the good of Dover.
Now you could just continue to put down all politicians, which is your right,
but i'v found by trying to embrace people(even in these frustrating times) is a better way, and you get more out of people.

Too many people sitting around moaning and blaming others it seems.
David, all the posts (except Neil's) since are moans, pot kettle etc.

Glib nonsense Keith.
This thread is about "embracing" people, you tried to "embrace" people for 25 years and the town has got worse.
Its time for action not meaningless words, Dover is run by people who clearly are incompetent, we're going backwards not forwards.

Jan you are correct.
I was at a Town Team meeting and Big Local meeting last night till 8.30, I was in the Market Sq before 6.00 and will be there later, I'm simply asking people to contribute in a positive way or stop moaning.
And in the case of politicians, stop making excuses and pointing fingers and get on with what you're paid to do.

I'll meet you in the Market Sq next tuesday at 6.00 Keith, you can help with the market.
But don't bother bringing your petty agenda with you, those of us that are busy trying to help aren't interested.

you are hardly sending out an encouraging message david, people need to be cajoled into doing things rather than being shouted at.

Really Howard?
I've lived here since 1963, I've seen plenty of talk and cajoling, its why we're where we are.

not my experience david, in the 11 years i have lived here the town is awash with volunteers quietly getting on with things without putting anyone else down.

We all have our own ways of getting our message across and our own ways of delivering what we want to achieve for our community.
As Howard says there is a good bunch of highly motivated volunteers that just get on and do stuff from clearing the Dour, to running community forums, to working with people with disabilities etc etc all of which is fantastic and makes our community a much socially richer place to live. These volunteers efforts could and will be enhanced through the work Big Local is doing and the community network proposed by various groups.
What we are missing is the thing that will lift Dover to the next level and see improvements in employment, the retail environment etc.
The most positive thing I have seen recently is the suggestion of a new skatepark. This works on many levels but importantly it would be a major new attraction drawing people into Dover, creating footfall for retailers and hoteliers, putting money into the local economy and ultimately seeing employment opportunities grow

If you can find me having a go at volunteers I'll buy you a bottle of champagne Howard.

Ross, I agree completely about the skate park and I hope that it happens. I also hope the old fuddy duddies in authority do not manage to kill the thing off.
David, being brutally honest if I was still able to volunteer I would not join your group as I could not put up with your attitude to others that disagree with you. For goodness sake calm down and chill out.
