09:4979762I respect lorrains knowledge on history, but with this comes PAUL scotchie also holds a lot of info on western heights.
Im certain paul wont be happy to see to much build up there, but with this he recognises the place needs survival.
Today's climate where councils are looking to save millions funding is a big issue for the western heights.
The question remains if the fundng doesn';t come forward do we allow the western heights to fall apart over years?
Thats not to say i support housing or a hotel, but it is a problem
ALL POSTS ARE MY OWN PERSONAL VIEWS

12:1579784Lorraine, if it is as Paul aka states, that DDC have no building plans on Western Heights, then by opposing any development proposal to build houses on the Heights, you are in no way contesting DDC, but only some projects put forward by developers who are not Councillors.
Hence I would suggest you contact these developers and put your case forward, asking them to reconsider their proposals, and that you drum up support from many people to do the same. There is in fact no law preventing someone from doing this, and it would help the developers understand what people think about their projects. Otherwise they could say they didn't know.

12:5079787No Alex - lobbying the Council is the right thing to do.
The developers are asking DDC to include the site in the LDF and because they have done that DDC will need to decide on the issue after consultation. DDC has had all sorts of representations to include sites from developers, they do not have to accept them.
It is true that DDC do not gave any plans to do this but they will have the decision to make.

13:2679796Thanks Keith, a difficult issue to deal with. It may even turn out that we WANT the developers to do something, until we know what they propose to do we need to LISTEN to what they want to do. They may want to do something that is of BENEFIT to the heritage, we don't know at the moment.
Personally I will be submitting something to the Council and WHPS will also do the same (though they might not necessarily be the same view).
My personal view is that if something is sensitively done and of benefit to the heritage, then I could support it. If they want to build a whacking great tower block and cheap housing then no.
Been nice knowing you :)

Thanks for your e-mail to me and the Western Heights Preservation Society
Nowhere in what I have said (my personal view and nothing to do with WHPS) that I am PRO development. My view is open and depending on what development might be - I may agree with it or may disagree.
Who's to say that 'development' is bad - it may mean development into a full tourist attraction to compliment the Castle and bring regeneration to the town !!!!
