The key to this development's success is local opinion outweighing quango officials trying to influence the decisions..
Local people need to know a negative response from one quango brings the same from the rest as they have signed memorandums agreeing not to disagree with one another.
In effect a veto from one can bring vetoes from the rest despite not being their area of activity that is affected.

amazingly by people that have lived here all their lives.
if you listen long enough the conspiracy theories surface, my favourite one was that english heritage pay a percentage of their income from the castle to d.d.c.

Another bump = don't forget there is another chance to discuss the plans this evening with the developers
"Thursday 29th March 2012 from 5pm to 8pm - The Thatched Barn, Folkestone Road, CT15 7AA"

I'll just repeat my previous post.
You can have the people of Dover deliver local judgement on the scheme or leave it to quango technocrats who have nothing to do with Dover.

lost me here paul, which quangos are involved?
i assumed that the developers would take on board local views then submit their plans to ddc planning dept.

Exactly Paul
So far from what I hear of the website/roadshow was that there is very little feedback or interest from people. Sad really as it is so major and there are big opportunities to make a difference....

Sooooo......
Who has been to see any of the exhibitions or given feedback on the website?
Be interesting to know who is genuinely interested in local issues which are within their control - rather than the endless government issues over which we have very little control !!!
Been nice knowing you :)

Paul the feedback so far is overwhelming support & get on with it.
The new planning framework recognises local supremacy over the national quangos on this one.

Still be interesting to know who on here has fed back to them - as there are a lot of very vocal people on here it is very quiet !!!
Been nice knowing you :)
I am totally committed to Dover and to all the pathways towards regeneration and development including this. And I support you! But I work long hours, often over unpredictable days, and it isn't always possible - isn't usually possible - for me to be hands on involved, much as would like to be. Hell, I can't even get to most of the knees-ups!

who are these mysterious quangos that are being referred to, as far as i can see we give feedback, the developers base their plans on that and then planning department recommend to the planning committee who say yes or no?

I couldn't make the exhibitions but have sent in my thoughts via the survey. I don't have any great problems with the designs. A blend of new with the historic has worked in many other towns and cities and hopefully will do so here too.

ANOB , Natural England, English Heritage, National Trust ,CABE[being abolished] CPRE, etc.
One of those who do not have powers but nuisance factors & influence on others can ignite mutual support for their viewpoint despite the others not having a reason to object for their respective interest.
That's how planning gets bogged down & costs people mega bucks to make plannning applications.

that has made me think, most of those organisations were celebrating the new amended planning laws recently that gave protection to green belt land and freed up brown field sites by cutting red tape.
they will have a field day with this one.

Thats why WHPS also need as many views from people as possible
We could be fighting for OR against any of those above and DDC, the developer and others so need to know what position the locals want us to take should it come to it !!
Been nice knowing you :)

Most of the sites for development in this scheme are brownfield.
If not brown field then other options are offered as substitute green sites.

I didn't make it to the consultation, but have certainly had a good look at the plans on the website and completed the survey/comments form. Fully support the project, and as Paul says, keen that the planning process is not blighted by the NIMBYS and others. A unique opportunity for Dover to bring this area into proper economic use and value for the town.
