  Please do come up. Paul and myself will be be up there - Paul will be doing the rounds making sure everyone is OK. I'll be on the parade ground all weekend and will bore you senseless with newly discovered wartime stories and diagrams if you are not careful.
  
  Please remember that every penny at the door goes towards the group. We lost £1500 of equipment through a break in earlier in the year that wiped out completely last years takings at the Spring open weekend. Every penny spent at the door will go towards recouping that loss and will be spent on tools and other bits and pieces to try and maintain our fascinating crumbling fortress.
  
  We will have a burger van and parking is available on the old Grand Shaft Barracks site.

  Really gutted I cant be there this weekend guys, alas its wedding fayre season and I shall be doing all the catwalk shows at Dover College ( feel free to send lots of beautiful girls down! I can just see Mandy strutting her stuff down the catwalk!)

  this was the scene at just after half ten, judging by the number of cars parked there so early, the organisers can confidently expect a bumper turn out over the 2 days.

  Thanks Howard - we don't get near the number of people that we get in the main summer event, but we still had a reasonable turnout and have covered our costs today, so everything tomorrow is 'profit' which will go into the projects that we will carry out in the new year.
  
  Tomorrow we have the First Footguards, 79th Cameron Highlanders, some Buffs, and a few stray Belgians that were picked up in the summer

  good to hear that paul, numbers should be up tomorrow with the promised mini heatwave and most peope having done their shopping today.
  
  maybe the revenue tomorrow will make up for the equipment stolen over the last year?
  
  i will be up there about midday, would be nice to see some forum members and friends up there having a good time and supporting our volunteers.

  We have some ideas next year that we might try and do WW1 or WW2 themes especially after the new information that Phil has managed to locate.
  
  We always knew that there was activity up there in both wars and that it must have been important considering it's (the Drop Redoubt) position, but not to the extent that has recently been uncovered

  Well, we had a nice weekend with about 770 visitors in total. The weather turned out really nice for Sunday afternoon giving some really lovely views across the harbour and valley.
  
  The re-enactors put on a great show with some battlefield surgery including an amputation! I hope they make this a standing fixture.
  
  I even met two people who had relatives who had served at the Redoubt including a gentleman with an ancestor who had served as a gunner with the Royal Artillery there way back in 1851!

  Yes we had a very good day up there,we was watching a poor man have his leg taken off,all I can say about that is if i am to have my leg taken off, I hope there is a better way than that.
