We pay £22 per month for the supply (Veolia) and that more than covers our usage. £23 pm for waste water (Southern Water).

Depends on whether they're metered or not and whether they're wasteful or not.
Water conservation is also important.

everyone is metered in dover now i believe roger, if not they will be very shortly.
i agree about water conservation, but in many cases the water companies are the most guilty, our previous one "folkestone and dover" had one of the worst records in the country.

Some of us cannot have a meter. When I was surveyed because the water pipe is shared with next door we cant have it. That means we are instead on a rate applicable to a two person household which did save us some dosh.

Barry - If you get the supply separated, which I did some years ago as we shared the supply with 3 houses, I was able to then get a meter.

I have had a letter saying I will be getting one but no idea when. Looking forward to the lower bills it was not a good idea getting a meter when Wendy's two boys were here, they liked lots of baths and produced loads of washing.

Bern, I am in shock

Having just caught up with this post, I went to check my bills as I immediately knew that ours was definitely higher than yours and indeed most of the others on here. I naively thought that everyone's was roughly the same give or take and that meters would be more accurate and would save us some money as the girls are away at uni. I received a letter only last week to say that we would shortly be getting a meter installed.
We are paying just shy of £800.
BarryW, noticed your comment re 2 people household rate, thank you, I will certainly be calling them asap

Colette and Bern,
Get on a meter ASAP. I was listening to 5Live this morning and they were talking about water meters. Apparently if you are not on a meter you are being charged on the old rateable value of your house consequently if you live in a big house and only two people living there you are paying well over the top.
I have just checked my bills for the last 12 months and I paid Veolia for supply £132.36 and Southern Water for sewage £126.00. Total £258.37.
That is for a small 3 bed bungalow with big garden and two people living there. Band D council tax.
