It sounds like Umm Ali, an Egyptian pudding similar to bread and butter pudding but made with filo pastry, nuts and dried fruit.

Now that sounds nicer Peter, but not sure they would have had it for school dinners - not back in 1963 when I left school.
Then, you had to eat everything on your plate, I remember many times at Junior School, I would put the cabbage stalks and gristly meat in my jacket pocket just so I could go out and play afterwards, or it was sit there till the lessons started.
Roger
Ah, Convent dinners. How did they manage to make the instant mash lumpy? That has to be a real skill. And milk puddings to die for. Literally.

who can remember being dished up tapioca, semolina and macaroni, then being told to "enjoy" it?

Roger, you ate everything on your plate yesterday, and quite a lot of Jean 's too!

Yes I did Peter - because I enjoyed it and as you know, Jean doesn't eat much at all, but what she did eat, she enjoyed - and she says thank you too (but didn't realise you were keeping an eye on her - only joking on this last bit).

To use another debating chamber's vernacular, he's posting in "another place"!
He was quite chipper when I saw him yesterday. Reckons he'll be ready to be an aging rocker with his new guitar in about a year.

I think he has had enough of the personal attacks some forumites have mounted against him.

Vic........ come back Vic......... whats got you, you promised me that your goodself and lovely Lesley will be with us on Friday night.......... I won't let you change your mind..... I won't, I won't, I won't
We have some work to do after Christmas, remember the photos we talked about

Of course we want him back, Vic is simply Vic. But be fair, Peter, Vic puts himself forward for some things and can expect a bit of challenge - that is not the same as personal attacks. Vics dedication to Dover is never in question, nor his hard work. But we do have a right to courteous challenge and discussion and he does come out with some ripe old stuff!! I hope very much that my own challenges to Vic haven't been too horrible - that was never the intention.

Sometimes its not nice receiving unwarrented attacks .A lesson learnt maybe .
Attacks, yes. Genuine challenges, no. This is a forum, that implies conversation and discussion. As long as it is courteous that seems fine to me.

Peter, I believe my comments about Vic were perfectly justified as he had a tendency to post some trivial rubbish at times, I guess it all depends what you call personal.

Don't shoot the messenger. In post 33 I was merely paraphrasing what he said to me on Sunday afternoon.
