I assume the plane circling Dover this morning was to do with the VE day celebrations? Also two big Chinooks flew over towards Capel I think. I did get a photo of the plane but not very clear. Hopefully one of our good photographers will have taken some and be posting them. Interesting day.
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

A simple, but good service outside the Town Council offices today, to celebrate VE day.

Moving event this evening, organised by KCC at The Wing, a Battle of Britain site, with short speeches and the lighting of a beacon, one of several around the country, first one being lit by the Queen at 9.30 p.m. To mark VE Day. Beacon was in shape of V.

Howard, Brian refers to Town Council at the service in the morning by the War Memorial in Dover. Not sure that the DTC butted in as the organisers of that service made a point of excluding officialdom (council).
The service up at Capel in the evening was the official event to mark the anniversary timed to coordinate with events beginning in London and Windsor where the Queen lit the first beacon, so officialdom from the area were invited to attend.

Hi Howard, I don't think that it is a state secret. Augusta, and the 'angry grannies' (sounds like a strange pop group
) as they style themselves, organised the service and wreath laying at the Memorial in Dover yesterday.

Why does everything have to be so hush hush in this area, KCC, DDC and DTC just seem to fail when it comes to communicating with the public.
As for the VE event at the Memorial that was also kept quiet, seems one had to be part of that petty clique to know about it, so they are no better.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

What I can't work out is how this spiteful individual can exclude anyone(officialdom or not) from an open air wreath laying.

niel, the organizer was told that the maour was attending an event on the sea front [busy] so wasnet invited on that account and not out of protocol as suggested.
the mayor did turn towards the end in full regala meet and greeted some americans of the cruise ships that where in,one member of dtc staff laid a reef.

#16, from what I have seen and read I'm not sure that's a fair comment Howard.

What a nasty bunch some of you are, you need to get your facts right before you make such comments. The reason the Mayor was not invited to the wreath laying ceremony was because we were told by email ( which we still have by the way ) that no one would be available to attend the ceremony because they - the Mayor - would be at the event on the seafront. Paul Watkins was asked & accepted willingly. As for secrecy Jan Higgins anyone could have laid a wreath & attended it was well promoted on FB, we may be a petty clique but we get things done something DTC doesn't seem able to do. At the ceremony our lady in charge offered to add the Mayor to the list of wreath layers more than once & extremely politely this was turned down. Sadly the town clerk decided to rudely walk on in the middle of a young college pupils reading of a wartime poem & lay a wreath, it was noticed by quite a few people & the comments have not been favourable. Why can't you people accept the fact that we've done more in 2 days than DTC has done in a year. Our celebration in Pencester was a fantastic event so many people attended sadly the rain didn't help but it didn't stop us & I might add neither will your nasty comments & jealous remarks, we won't go away & fully intend to be thorns in the side of DTC until you start to work for the people that have put you there, oh & petty clique comes to mind when reading your remarks as well .
