- 31 January 2012 12:27150537That great day for romantics is just around the corner...all that billing and cooing, all those valentine cards ( I have seventeen already !!..oooh such a liar) ..romantic dinners....who knows where it will all lead, who knows where will it all end!!?
The hugely passionate could try this suggestion from DFDS which has champagne and chocolates high on the agenda and solid romantic places like Bruges thrown into the mix.

For those that are planning something extra special, passengers can also choose to upgrade to the First Class Lounge, which costs from as little as £12 extra per person. This allows couples to make the most of a relaxing environment during their crossing across the Channel.

*France's Champagne Region*
Just two and a half hours drive from Dunkirk is Reims, the centre of the world famous Champagne Region. Romantic couples can celebrate Valentine's Day by sampling some of the world's best bubbles whilst on guided tours which include the Taittinger champagne cellars and the Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin house.
*Bruges*
Chocolate and Valentine's Day go hand in hand and less than an hour from Dunkirk is the medieval town of Bruges.
The picture book town, known as 'the Venice of the North', is interwoven with waterways and canals, perfect for romantic walks. Why not take in the history of the city with a romantic horse carriage ride around the city?
*Lille*
France's fourth largest metropolitan area is a cosmopolitan city of culture, entertainment, shopping and history. Vieux Lille, is the city's oldest district, and the winding cobbled streets are full of antique and jewellery shops, perfect to buy that special someone a special gift to mark Valentine's Day.
*Dunkirk*
The historic harbour town of Dunkirk has some of the best Flemish food on offer. Within the town centre is a number of Michelin starred restaurants including the Hostellerie Le Fox, which has a number of traditional dishes on its menu, served with a modern twist. After enjoying a romantic meal, why not take in the stunning sights of Dunkirk and beyond whilst at the top of the 13th century tower. Oh dear Paul aka Scotchie you are certainly double booked or even triple booked-up there. Let me suggest a walk along your favourite beach, see pic below...walking is very healthy, so they tell me.. not that I do much of it, but its also cheap and economical in these times of non plenty.
Wot a picture! By Paul Scotchie Wells from his exhibition we did on the frontpage a year or so back. A romantic walk as the sun goes down is just the thing, with the gentle surf lapping against your ankles.

I twisted my knee a few days ago. Stupid thing was it's my right knee, my left leg already had a pulled muscle - I'm doing well this week as I also have an eye infection!
