Good idea Peter.
It is a daft idea using a company based in Croydon but I suppose they have the contract to cover the whole of the South East area.

I was at a cricket match in Chelmsford many years ago an hour before the start and the heavens opened leaving much out of the outfield under water. The ground staff worked for about half an hour with their forks and were getting nowhere. The Club Secretary had a brainwave and called the fire brigade who made the ground playable in no time, pumping the water into the river running through the ground.

According to
this report the fire services are tackling fewer fires so have time on their hands for other jobs.
This is probably an engineering fault thought rather than an under-capacity problem in heavy rain - somewhere I've got pics of leakage from the system going down the adjacent drain during dry spells.

It's a lack of maintenance. The pipes and ducts leading to and from the pumps are never adequately cleaned of silt so all it takes is a few fag butts and they are blocked again.

Similar situation with drains everywhere with no regular maintenance, KKC only respond when a report of blockage come in.

Going off at a tangent about 3 years ago contractors for KCC silted the stretch of river near Morrison's and Halford's, I don't know if they done other parts but some of the detritus dated to pre-war Dover

Workers have been in the underpass today clearing several bucketfuls of sticky black ooze out of the pipes and channels leading to the pumps. Hope it will stay clear when it rains in future.

I raised issue of all things raised on here after the last flooding and people crossing busy road, location of company, pumps need replacing etc etc with contact at Highways England, it was acknowledged etc. Now I know some action been taken will follow up,to find out exactly what has been done and if this is a permanent solution.
Thanks
