This looks like a bit of a hip-hop hopscotch polka. Three steps forward one day, two steps back the next. Cameron obviously has had criticism from within his own party re the remarks he made on television the other day which seemed to endorse Boris. He went full frontal for the banana skin and it obviously tripped him up. See my earlier post ( # 16).
Now clearly backtracking, Cameron is just striking a neutral platform here to ward off the internal critics.
In the article reproduced there by Howard, Cameron speaks of lots of other guys within the conservative party ranks who are real prospective leaders, but names no one.
But who is there.. Jeremy Hunt?? heavens no, a further banana skin waiting to happen. Philip Hammond Defence Secretary..no, earnest but no charisma. William Hague..no, bin there dun that!
In football terms they are short of a striker bigtime!
PS: did anyone see the quick shot of Cameron and Boris boogying to the music at one point last night during the Olympics shindig. Very painful to watch...like when you try to be hip at your daughters birthday party with all the wriggling booty boogy moves while she cringes in the corner of the room. Ouch!

For better or worse politics is now all about personality, Milliband wont relish fighting Boris in a general election. Cameron is completely discredited and there for the taking but Boris is a breath of fresh air.

The people of London disagree Brian.
The electorate is dim, its not interested in policy just personality, people like Boris.

Exactly Brian, I loathe politicians, at least with Boris you can have a laugh.
The UK's economy is broken beyond repair, I'd rather go down having fun than listen to triballists on both sides abusing each other.
As you say, each to their own.

boris is the man for job of london mayor, it cries out for charisma.
ken was great in his time but he looked like yetsreday's man at the election this time.

The London election was a very close run thing for Boris, he never exactly walked it
Nationally the people of the UK still see the conservative's party as the party of the rich.
And reengaging on there promise to kill of the human rights act, EU referendum and immigration.

it was tight any other blue candidate and ken would have waltzed back in.
dave would have been mightily relieved, kept boris off his back for 5 years.

paulb
i fully endorse your comments on how bad cameron looks
but david trying to say your out of politics yet highly critical of labour does you no favours.
with regard to who will replace cameron now the bun fight has realy begun,
i disagree with you paulb on the next leader
willy hague was a leader at the wrong time
he would do well if he went for it again

would agree that william hague was treated badly when he was leader keith and is streets ahead of most of his contemporaries.
doubt if he would be interested now though.

lol!

Eckerslike...!
No I cant really see William Hague making a bid for power again. In all honesty i think he is happier as a top cabinet guy...Foreign Office and maybe even Chancellor but he seems uncomfortable in the front position. His wife didnt relish it either as she got a hard time in the papers. As did William himself in the end, once that famed honeymoon period was over. Who can forget the baseball cap !?
He pops up regularly on the sunday morning shows, clearly he is the easy sunday morning acceptable face of capitalism and Conservatism..
The picture above was taken by that young man about town Peter Garstin when William Hague came to support Charlie in the last election. It worked..Charlie now has the seat of his pants planted in the mother of all parliaments.
