but until we see an alternative no party(only 2 likely to be able to be the majority party) could win outright.

unfortunatly there isn't brian, and with it likely to go the route of no overal party winning we would end up with the same fiasco we are in now.

Osborne breaks his impressive record. Many `U` turns have been made at the rate of one a week, then many at two a week
but this week he gets a `hat trick`3 `U` turns in one week.
The ill-conceived policy on Charities was `U` turned today.......Dance Hall ?

i thought they engaged advisors to tell them the fallout on each policy so that there should never be a reason to turn back.
everyone knows now that if enough noise is made the government will backtrack.

Yes thats right three u turns this week alone. The spin earlier in the week suggested..."we are listening to people" But as the political chap on the BBC said...this was supposed to be a Budget, not a consultative document! George Osborne's reputation is shot lately, in nautical terms he is a leaky vessel, not going anywhere fast. Hard to have faith in him bringing us out of recession, even stalwart Tory BarryW must be having doubts round about now.
The whole Cameron experience is not doing well lately...even with Coulson now being charged with perjury, and we know what happened to Rebekah Brooks, his premiership has all become tainted with slipperyness. Former PM top aide Coulson it appears wouldnt know the truth if he slipped over it. His life has become the rounds of one police investigation after another, and lets not forget he worked in government at the top level and was uncleared for security levels most high.

I am all in favour of u-turns when the need arises it shows the government are sensible enough to realise when they are wrong.
I cant help thinking that Cameron will be waiting for an excuse to shuffle Osborne elsewhere he has made far too many errors to last for ever.

Just saw yet another u-turn headline on Sky News.
Can't remember which one, as almost every decision by the Government is being u-turned.
Ah... the charity relief tax, so it was.
The problem seems to be the magnetic pole alignment: whenever a decision is made, the pole inversion causes a u-turn.
I got this information from a peer-reviewed scientific research on politics.

I tend to agree with Jan, although some policies could perhaps be better thought out beforehand, or more research done.
I think it is a sign of good Government that they listen - perhaps on more things though, for me:
the cost of fuel - petrol/diesel,
the cost of energy
cutting off working tax credits and housing benefits for those on low incomes
those on £12,000 should pay no income tax
child benefit on no more than the first two (maybe 3) children
tighter immigration
sorting out benefit cheats quicker
That'll do for starters.

i just see it as a sign of weakness, the slightest backlash and they backtrack.
if it is a case of listening to the people then they would listen before they made up policies.

I see it as a sign of strength not weakness it takes a brave person to admit they are wrong. In the past I have made many mistakes by following the advice of those that are supposed to know what they are doing, governments do it all the time hence this mess we are all in.

# 31 Bet you can produce a rabbit from a top hat with a 7s 6p sticker in the band.
One wonders if the government had a risk register on all the considerable number of ill-conceived policies that resulted in the
many `U` turns ?...but if they did they would not publish it.
# 32 Spot on..any member of the public would have told them not to sell our forests to the timber industry and would have
applauded a `U` turn on Bombardier.

News that Britain's biggest independent oil refinery may shut closely follows the closure of England's only aluminium smelter (Lynemouth).
Thousands of jobs and some of the last vestiges of heavy industry lost, but let's worry about the Pasty Question.

I would prefer we did not congratulate them for making U turns, I want the Government to govern properly and make proper well thought out decisions in the first place, that should be the minimum we expect surely?

of course we all make mistakes, we do not have teams of advisors to help us unlike
governments.
this one has made more u turns in 2 years than all the governments in my memory put together.

I think i take the view paulb holds (sorry jan lol)
cameron doesnt look the slightest strong, he actually is looking weaker every day.
im all for people pressure, but the policies should have been thought out propely in the first place. with so many advisors these many u turns should never have happened.
osbourne is also makng cameron look weak.
hunt no helping the cause either.
