i remain confident it will be a success, gives the arty crowd a reason to have a day out at the seaside.
i think it will have a knock on effect on the whole of east kent.
how often have we gone somewhere different and then decided to explore places nearby?
Im not an art fan modern or otherwise , but anything that will bring tourists to this lovely part of the world . Margate used to be the place to go in the summer when i was a teen , many many years ago that is .
I will never understand why "arty" is always followed by "farty". Art isn't elitist (only artists, and usually those without real talent who need the oxygen of publicity to sell) and we all need a bit of colour and shape, some alternative views, in our lives. There is more to art than choccy-box pics, and being alive to that isn't a weakness. I love the Turner Gallery concept, and it is totally appropriate to Margate and I fail to see why it couldn't co-exist with the "roots" of candy floss and razzmatazz mentioned in other posts. It is a fabulous development!

As Bern says, art can bring variety and colour to life, without it things would get pretty boring after a while.
Let's hope it will be a great success for Margate and Thanet.
