The really big probolem for teh High Street started many years ago when they were allowed to start selling non-food items; first it was cheap clothes, then I believe stationary items and then electricals of all descriptions and now it's broadband, insurance - anything you can think of.
I don't think it is a direct, conscious attempt to kill off Town centres by making them a pointless place to shop, but that, for many towns, is the result; glad to see with all our new shops opening, that isn't happening here.

I will not use Tescos because of a problem I had with them but you have to say they are providing what people want judging by the way they are continually growing , I visited Dymchurch Friday and there is a Tesco Express in the main street now.

The only good point about *hitco's is that there a branded UK company that are doing well in both the States, China and other countries making them profitable for the UK economy.

that one in dymchurch opened about 5 years ago, should kill off a lot of local trade.
no idea how they got permission to open.
