  Nice one Brian-it could happen-but not belching black smoke. LPG is a step in the right direction but more sustainable fuels are on the horizon. The case for Gasified coal would appear to be worth persuing.

  Underground coal gasification is an uncharted area, could result in an uncontrolled combustion followed by a massive boooom.

  richard,kent coal was virtuly smokeless,so no belching black smoke.

  Yes- if it has the right conditions for effective combustion. Betteshanger was always recognised as the best Kent steam coal.

  richard,i think the coal from tilmanstone was a better qualaty,but rumor has it all 3 pits where connected to one another by coal seams.
