Very much enjoyed the Town Team meeting earlier this evening, ably chaired by John Angell, who I believe is the longest serving independent in the town. Neil Wiggins was as eloquent as ever in explaining the thinking behind the plans for the Market Square, most interesting. The Team are doing good work to help the homeless in the town and are to be commended. The Mayor was in attendance and judging by his input is working extremely hard.
Great to see that people still want to do things rather than just offer unsolicited advice.

How nice. Only solicited advice wanted then; no unsolicited advice, suggestions, opinions wanted? OK, we know our place, after all the town is nothing to do with anyone else is it? Perhaps, just perhaps, there are people who have mobility issues and cannot attend meetings nor offer practical help. It ill behoves an erstwhile politician (albeit a failed politician) to adopt such an attitude on a public forum.

I think you are being a tad unfair 3Ms, Simon had invited his friends Reg and Jenny along to the meeting this evening so that a wide variety of input was heard.

I've been reading this forum on and off for years, I'm positive the Town Team would welcome suggestions. I'm also positive they're tired of people lurking in the shadows and criticising. I can think of one regular contributor who spends hours each week walking around town, taking photographs and offering advice, funnily enough when it comes to doing anything else he's too busy.

As a matter of interest - Are Minutes and records kept of these meetings, which affect our Town so much? Lots of the local business people and business owners would be interested in these records of the Town Team meetings, and what takes place, as it happens.
These could be published in the local paper, or, indeed placed within the Dover Town Council, for all to see. This would give your ideas, and activities a wider audience. Thus attracting more suggestions, and, indeed more people to offer help etc.
It is with enthusiasm to hear, that less homeless will be adopting the shops doorways, bandstand, vacant seats around the Dover Town Council offices. It will be good to see that they will be accommodated with decent shelter and food etc. away from the hardships of winter.

Quite so christine.a, just think, if you were to gather together a band of merry folk from this forum you'd be able to help those poor people.
Just a suggestion, you see, or perhaps advice, entirely up to you if you act upon it.

David I'm sure Christine is aware there is a team of volunteers who provide a hot meal and sandwiches every night for the homeless. There is also now a centre at the Catholic Church already mentioned by Howard who provide washing facilities.
All the volunteers in the world will find it an up hill struggle to tidy the town.
DDC provide street cleaners and quick to fine anyone dropping litter. What is needed the licensing laws to be changed against less drinking on the streets .

Yes there is a team of volunteers, if Christine is one of them good for her.
I have no no idea what licensing laws or people dropping litter has to do with it.

David if laws were changed we would not have so many people sitting outside the Eight Bells and people buying booze every hour of the day.Too many fast food outlets which encourages litter..
The Town Team from what I see and read there are enough people on that committee..
You do not always have to be seen and sit at endless meetings to achieve.

So we move seamlessly from homeless people to fast food outlets via the 8 Bells, skirting around issue after issue.
In case anybody was unaware, Sue was Chairman of DDC for many years, the delapidated High Street is entirely down to her and her cronies.
In the meantime, well meaning volunteers are doing their best.

Are there any well meaning volunteers on this Town Team who actually live in Dover?

I suppose that depends on your definition of Dover. Several things are less vague though: they all work in the town, create employment, pay taxes and care enough to give up their spare time for the benefit of others.
If the fools hiding behind pseudonyms on here were to follow suit the town would be a far more prosperous place.

David for an educated man you do come out with the most ridiculous comments. Before the editor moves this to political forum, the Chairmans role is not the same as Leader of the Council. If you had studied my engagement list you will have seen I visited business communities Parish Councils and many schools. It was not my remitt to improve the High Street of Dover .
The !eader engaged with the Town Council. It is a non political role The District covers a large area, not just Dover.
Yes I did offer advice but I did not engage in the running off the Council.
Perhaps you will also consider I was a very busy Ward Councillor.
Yes the the drinking brigade donot help the image of the town. Some one should put pressure on the
Police to stop drinking in public.
Until the town is cleaned up all the most wonderful cosmetic schemes will not change the Town Centre Of Dover
I do wonder why you did not stand for the District or a Town Council more chance of getting elected to those.

By the side stepping I guess the answer to Jack's question is no they do not live in Dover but possible in the DDC area.

I'm aware of the role of the Leader and the Chairman, my long held view is that both combined to create an environment of neglect and failure, where tea parties, gold chains and chauffeur driven cars were far more important than the well being of the town.
You say:
Some one should put pressure on the Police to stop drinking in public.
As Chairman of DDC you were uniquely placed to do so, you either couldn't be bothered or failed miserably.
Anyway, this thread is about the Town Team, a group of people unjustly excoriated by idiots. A few more town team members and a few less egotistical councillors and the town would be a better place.

Mr Little you are do rude.Do you really think I held numerous tea parties.i met with the Town Mayors all together I might add so no point scoring between the three towns. when out visiting I reported back to the leader.
I think you would be better off supporting the three UKIP District Councillors. Two of whom represent Dover.
I still do a lot of work behind the scenes.I don't need a gold chain to work for the community.I think you should chat to. Neil he is a. Gentleman .
Funny old world both you and Simon went to school with my two eldest..

It is indeed a funny old world, I never went to school with Simon. Neil is indeed a gentleman, he and I were at school together.

This thread is not about the Town Team but all about spouting bile - I doubt that the actual members of the Town Team would wish to be associated with it.
