It appears it costs councils £30.009 to apply
Levelling Up Fund round 1/2 announced Oct 21/Nov 23.
The £30,009 (!) is average council cost in paying their useless staff, probably working from home, to fill in the application.
Money will be spent on projects necessarily over quite a long period of time - look at haw long it took between original 'go ahead' and first bit of Market Square to be dug into for example.
Just because you have found a magic money tree does not mean you have also found a magic wand to fulfill projects immediately.

They're not happy in 'the best place to live in the South East'!

The £30.009 fee is obviously a canny government plan to force councils to submit 10 applications simultaneously in order to achieve a transactable unit of currency.

Obviously times are changing and town centres are not as they used to be .
Time to look and think outside the box

From 2012:-
Ashford is to receive a share of £1.5million to give its high street a much-needed boost.
It was announced as one of 15 successful towns to be chosen in the second round of Portas Pilot bids this morning.
As well as up to £100,000 in funding, the town will receive invaluable support and advice from retail guru Mary Portas.

How very dare you even hint that public accountability be attached to such visible failure.
The state simply couldn't function if its elite cadres faced shame and not reward for the negative consequences of their actions.

'Suitably chastened'.
(Especially for the liquor joke. Not funny and not grow up according to my carer.)

Nat West has just written to say their Market Square branch closed on 16 July next.

So yet another of our banks bites the dust.
Thank goodness I have a daughter who fully understands her way through internet banking when I have a serious problem.
BTW banking scam calls are doing the rounds again, that lovely foreign voice called Anne or whatever.

I,ve managed to get the hang of online banking but never have any luck scanning cheques.I actually went into the Dover branch yesterday with a cheque,i couldnt scan it and their machine wasnt working. The cashier said there was no plans that she knew of to shut the bank when i said i was glad they was still open and today i get the same letter. At least we will still be able to use the post office to deposit n make withdrawals.

I actually managed to scan a cheque recently
But I had to scan the blank back of the cheque otherwise it wouldn't accept it!

Since my stroke(s) last year I have been unable to write my signature - but I haven't written a cheque for years anyway.
I have also had to apply for a dispensation so my postal vote is unsigned! (I just hope I put the X in the correct box)

Dover, with its busy port and focal geographical strategic position, will have no banks left as we know them.Nat West customers have been informed by letter that Folkestone branch is their nearest. It's either there or Canterbury - but when will their time come too?

I feel sorry for those who cannot or are unable to do online banking. I would much rather things as they were but i,m glad i,ve been able to adapt.Online banking is quite handy and not to difficult to use once you,ve tried it a few times. Its either that or get left behind as i expect other branches will shut down.

I have to admit I resisted online banking for a long time, but I’ve found it surprisingly easy and I feel like I have a lot of control. Haven’t yet tried scanning in cheques but I’m sure I will . I like being able to see payments without waiting for a statement to arrive. I do ensure I have a robust security system on my phone.

I have been using online banking for a while but they are now trying to degrade the service like they did to physical banks and get everyone using the mobile app.
