While we remain in the EU, we have no control over our European immigration, so whatever is said at (any) Government level, means nothing at all.
Immigration from places like Africa, could and should be very tightly controlled - whichever route the immigrants take.
People from places like the Phillipines are, generally speaking, well educated and professional, or at least qualified people, so most, if not all of them, would be an asset.
Leave the EU and we can decide who comes and stays here.

Why are EU people more acceptable than other countries?
A fair proportion of those from the EU are just as uneducated as those from the rest of the world, they carry similar diseases and they cost this country as much as those from the world.
The only difference is they are more likely to be white and we has no choice but to let them come here in vast numbers because a few idiots in the EU passed a badly thought out law.

The Government cannot successfully tackle unemployment without being realistic on mass-immigration.

We simply cannot control EU immigration and most people from Eastern Europe are coming here for a much better life - usually at the expense of our own people.

ROGER;
I support some of what you say, but the conservatives during the general election made a big play on how they woul solve the problem.
instead, as howard says the numbers have increased, and its looking like the conservatives policies are out of control

Brian, taxes on £5.93 an hour are laughable, whether the peopoe are from eastern Europe or Asia.
But the costs for bemefits, education, NHS and pension (which will come later) by far outweigh the peanuts on tax you can expect from a minimum wage salary.
The benefits factor goes as much for immigrants who are entitled to them as for British people out of work.
As I mentioned before, eastern European countries in the EU must be in a sad shape if so many people depend on coming and going to the West to earn money.

Brian, the problem is they come but do not go, we seem to be stuck with them.
Going by the number of working age eastern Europeans, that I see around the town during the day, they do not work and so must be living off the taxes we pay.
If I had to choose between the eastern Europeans or the Asians I would pick the latter they have the work ethic.

poles and lithuanians seem to be here to earn money, not sure about many of the others.
most seem to hang around all day and the kids rarely go to school.

more to do with what that money is worth back in poland brian, a polish chap said to me a few years back that just to work hard for a year here would make him the equivalent of a millionaire back home.
maybe he was exaggerating but the point was well made.

funnily enough most poles come over to make a small mint for themselves manby sending dosh home.
then after a few years return home.
the ones i have spoken to remain very politically active, and also very patriotic.
one was on the computer other day, out of interest i asked what the polish site was he told me it was a local council election result in poland.

We get some coming into the shop, they are so nice and polite plus we do not have to trail them round the shop.

From todays Mirror 2nd June
MORE than 160,000 asylum seekers have been allowed to stay in Britain in an effective "amnesty", MPs have revealed in a damning report. The immigrants were given "leave to remain" in the country as officials battled to clear a backlog of 450,000 cases. Another 74,500 foreigners who claimed they were fleeing persecution cannot be found by the UK Border Agency.
The Home Affairs select committee also found the agency is failing to tackle those who come here illegally or overstay their visas. Up to 181,000 people who should have returned home over the last four years are still living here.
Officials have now dealt with 403,500 cases, which built up during the 90s and early 2000s, and given 161,000 people permission to stay in Britain.
The MPs' report said that it was "such a large proportion that it amounts in effect to an amnesty". Committee chairman Keith Vaz added the agency was "not fit for purpose".
The verdict is embarrassing for David Cameron, who made tightening up on immigration a priority after being elected last year. Home Office minister Green said: "There's absolutely no amnesty. What we've done is get through to the bottom of the huge problem we inherited."

i wonder what percentage are criminals escaping prosecution rather than persecution.
