try as you may to deflect the debate away from the actual posting
there are a number of issues the local tories do that has many affects on many differing types of people.
but anyway on the actual day
the most important thing i feel we need now having seen trade unions that have never been on strike in all there 120 year history
(shows the level of disgust at this govt)
is that both sides stop the confrontational approach, it does nothing to help either cause.
and instead do like many of the employers.trade unions are doing behind the scenes in trying to resolve the problems.

Roger.
I think you are missing the point; they were supporting fellow workers, not fellow councillors. Which is their right.
It does not matter, if others on the day of action knew of the their support or not, it is more important to the individual, him or herself and that is something you support, isn't it?

I was at a meeting yesterday attended by both Labour councillors and Conservative councillors .I did offer the Labour councillors the mince pies they lost out on by not attending the meeting the night before .Before anyone jumps up and down the mince pies were paid for by me .

I think roger has made it clear that he does not support the strikers and of course like the labour group decision that is his right.
tory cllrs like labour will stand on there merit come the next election.
i know i would had i still been a cllr been on the picket line but then everyone knows im a lefty lol.
but we should be debating the strike/goverment
not other issues
unless we realy want to deflect away from what is realy happening.

In your post number 43, you said I was deflecting away from the thread - the thread was about the Labour Councillors not attending the Council meeting as per the (then) front page, so I have not deflected anything at all.
You are right on one thing, I did not support the strike, absolutely did not support the strike; that's not to say all strikes are wrong, but I felt this one was.
Gary, not sure what you are saying with "it is more important to the individual, him or herself and that is something you support, isn't it?"

I think the Tories collectively from National to local level are missing the point - some because they never got it in the first place, some because they really dont care and some rather deliberately for political and populist gain

So what is the point that we Conservatives are missing about Labour Councillors not attending the Full Council meeting on Wednesday Ross ?

These signs that the Conservative Councillors carried on regardless is close to making a virtue out of a necessity.
Or, more worryingly, they hope to convince themselves and others that nothing really happened. That is a little sad.

Nice one Reg. But the problem with gesture politics such as this mass absence is that opportunities to oppose or balance the ruling party's programme are lost, to the detriment of the labour voters.

interesting front page one main topic and two different angles.
we are used to the heroics of the chaps and chapesses that go out and brave the elements and bring people home to dry land.
there is also the element of funding that only comes from charitable donations and we have a young lady that took on a challenge to bring much needed money to the r.n.l.i.
well done sian.
