The action taken by the local Labour Councillors - as I've said on another thread, was totally unnecessary, there was no picket line to cross in the afternoon, no solidarity to be overly concerned with and they completely abdicated their rsponsibility as elected representatives.
Why should the Council change the date of its meeting to fit in with the whim of Labour Councillors ?
It was indeed an odd meeting; it went very smoothly, no snide or silly comments made, but they (Labour Councillors) missed a very important presentation on the development of Calais Port and its relationship with the Port of Dover (described on another thread) as well the latest update on the DTIZ.
They let down those who voted for them, for an outdated ideal and an unnecessary strike.

Odd comments from you Reg as you well know that Wendy went to the meeting to ask a "member of the public" question.
She (and presumably you) had no qualms and lack of solidarity with the strikers.

reg stood as an independent at the last election roger, he would not be able to hold a party card.
also he and blue charlie are the driving force behind the hospital campaign.

Reg may not be a member of the Labour party (as Keith is not), but he is a Labour supporter - aren't you Reg. ?

i cannot answer for reg but it seems clear that he sees the bigger picture and is not held back by blinkered party constraints.

I'M sure reg can answer for himself, but i understand reg is in the same thinking as myself, as reg made the brave move to leave the labour party even before i did, and reg is an independent thinker these days.
yes i think as the labour party is in your blood for some of us it is veDry difficult to forget why we joined a party and hold onto the hope that labour will return where it should be, that said reg stood against official labour candidates in a number of elections and it sounds now like the local party wouldnt have reg back.
(not that he has any intention of ever rejoining)
and howard is correct reg will see the bigger picture and use everyone and anyone no matter there background to achieve a better Dover, thats where reg and i probably differ slightly, where as i know charlie boy is doing it as a publicity stunt
reg will work with all for a better dover.
also roger to be fair you have done well to deflect away from the actual posting but i felt you should be given some answers

There are 2 things to consider which we did,1. We discussed a picket line and we agreed not to cross it.2. It was a day of action 24 hours and we agreed that we would support our fellow workers who are being slaughtered by this goverment.
On the radio last night someone said do you want a 70 year old nurse looking after you, just a thought.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

Ah, yes. Local Politics...
There is Local-p and there is Local-P.
Two names involved at the County level make it into the current issue of PE.
Kerswell & Carter.
The former has been missing from the office for some time and the latter is soon to be off for a month in SA.
Well, there is only the matter of the Budget and mayhap the 'glistering-goodbye' to be considered.
As Dylan Thomas put it in Under Milk Wood...
"What will the neighbours say, what will the neighbours...?"
Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.

Sorry John, I don't see anything you have stated as being relevant to not attending Wednesday night's Council meeting.
You have always said attack the policies not the person, so I'm not knocking any person, just the decision not to attend.
The people who went on strike on Wednesday (I'm sure) didn't even know you weren't at the Council meeting, but I'm sure would rather know your attending the Council meeting to argue on their behalf.
