18:2683820Well the freak who leaked confidential and private information is sitting in a cell and has time to think about what he's done. I wonder if he paid people to leak information, to then sell it to the press for a profit, and then pay more people to leak information, reap a profit by selling it to the press, and so on.
It had to come to an end. May-be he also did hacking on computers for all we know.
He bacame a public enemy of many, and risked bringing State leaders in a position to check under their bed that the freak wasn't lying there listening!
He belongs in a cell. What he did was most despicable!

18:2983823For instance, Vladimir Putin wears a black belt, and if he had found the freak lying under his bed with microphones, he light have landed him a chop, or whaked his asre!

00:1783864Well the news said only a few hours ago that a group of people in support of the freak has launched cyber warfare including hacking. So if his supporters are hackers, then we know what we are dealing with here. I find that the freaks doings have been very unfair, but may-be we should leave it to him to answer for what he's done. There definitly are laws on privacy, and many people must have asked themselves who they can trust, and how information has been leaked out through to a freak who has made an institution of it. And it seems he is now using supporters to terrorise the Net. He might be in deeper trouble yet!

00:5983867Alexander, I trust you do not purchase a daily newspaper because they are staffed by people who make a living out of trying to uncover governments dirty little secrets.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

11:3083897Alexander why let the facts get in the way of the story eh
Bradley Manning (in your words "the freak who leaked the info") received no payment for the information, in fact whilst Wikileaks promised to collect donations for his legal fund once he was arrested they have not yet donated a penny. Manning was "given" up to the US authorities by a convicted former hacker, it appears because Manning refused to route the information he had stolen through that hacker.
The people doing these things are no more or less freaky than you Alexander, they have a different world view than you, a very dim view of democracy and the political apparatus and a different set of tools to tackle what they see as abuses of power, both by the state and by global corporations. In this case Visa, Mastercard and PAyPal all caved in to pressure from the US State Department to freeze payment services and accounts, despite no warants or court orders have been obtained in a US court, suggesting that the US authorities are struggling to find a criminal case that will stand up in a US court.
For your information there is no overarching UK privacy law - various acts confer some form of privacy over some of your information and property, however thay all have clauses allowing the state to gather and review that information where it is deemed necessary to do so. So who do you trust now?

14:1483922Lets not take it too seriously, may-be the freak will add some experience to his curriculum sitting in a cell for a spell.

19:1883966The reference was clearly meant to indicate ways of bringing to the public private aspects of peoples' lives, not exactly in those literal terms of hiding under the bed, Howard. But by gathering information.
I won't put any more to it, alright, but I reiterate that there are laws concerning information, and concerning cyber attacks on the Web. If the person leading Weakilleaks has broken laws in one or more countries, or is naming people personally so as to get them into trouble for something that we would not consider illegal, but that might be so elsewhere, sorry Howard, I read an article the other day about it, then I have the right to call his doings despicable.
There are enough problems as it is in the world, I believe that governments try to do a lot to keep the peace, and there are ways of protesting in a civilised fashion.
What the gentleman has been doing is not my cup of tea. To think that he could go unchallenged by establishments in various countries for what he has leaked and could leak in the future, is naive, with the consequences it could lead to in terms of showdowns and public embarassments and ruptures of international relations. That's all.

read post 27 about illegality please.
the man you refer to has simply collated leaked documents and passed them over to various newspapers that he knew would publish them in the name of "freedom of information".
this has been done "free of charge", the only money they receive is through donations from individuals that like to know certain truths.
bombing of innocent afghan villagers is but one, there are many more atrocities that we would never had known about otherwise.

17:0584402It's about time the double standards of the US Goverment was challenged. And all goverments for that matter. the cat is well and truly out of the bag. What this demonstrates
is that with the inernet, freedoms and information can be hosted on sites that you cannot block if you do it is already too late as the information has already been seen by millions.
I hope this makes some sense as i am posting in a rush before i go on the xmas shopping run

17:0784967now looks like mr assange will be free on bail later today.
might be an idea for alex to go under cover for a while after all the things he said about him.
the defendant might have a new place to stick his electronic tag if he catches up with him.
