Great Britain will be left with just one deep-pit coal mine after this government announced the closure of two of our last three pits, at a cost of over 1,300 jobs.
Britain brings the mining industry to the brink of extinction.
Once a thriving and proud coal industry, the biggest employer in the country, when the pits were at the centre of communities whose way of life revolved around them.
Around 1Million miners were once employed in an industry that supported this country through two World Wars.
Brave miners, who put their health & safety aside, for the sake of their communities and their country, are now dying with the knowledge that even the mineral rights to the Billions of tons Coal that has been left underground, all across the country, no longer belongs to Britain.
While Britain's, costly determination to bring our coal industry to an end, they stand alone, as rest of the world reaps the benefits and secures a future for their own countries.
Absolute madness.

What I cannot understand is why the rest of the world is cashing in on this vital resource but our short sighted governments are so determined to destroy it.
Of course in my view the pit closures were always about getting rid of us miners and nothing to do with any economic or eco reasons and for those who disagree with that, then you tell me why Betteshanger Colliery was closed, when it was breaking all productivity records. when it shut in 1989?

It has always been a political thing with a lot of malice involved going back to the days of Churchill, economics doesn't come into it.

Makes me laugh when you see labour and their supporters bemoaning the closure of pits during Thatcher's reign at the same time rubbing their hands with glee when mines close and coal fired power stations are shut down while doing a jolly dance when a, wait for it, a "Heritage Centre" to celebrate our mining history alongside a campus to explore unicorn green energy.
All this when opposition to fracking compounds our energy deficit and makes us all reliant on imported fuel.
Childish thinking all round.

Philip.
I would never rub my hands with glee when mines are shut and coal fired power stations are shut down.
Yes I am very happy with a "Kent Mining Museum" being built at Betteshanger Sustainable Parks and yes I will be very pleased to see it followed by a College of Excellence, delivering a high quality of education.
Oh and yes, very very pleased with the1000 jobs it will create as well, only a fool would not want that for his community,
The only reason I am against fracking is because we still have 9 Billion tons of coal beneath our feet that we should be mining.

Those billions of tons of coal will stay there for ever more, unfortunately because of policies enacted by labour and pushed forward by the tories and liberals. The silly fools are robbing us blind and depriving future generations of a successful future.
As for the 1000 jobs - I suspect it'll be fewer than that.

No Philip you are wrong.
The licence to mine all coal reserves in Kent has been sold to an Australian company.
Someone will mine coal again in Britain, it just wont be Britain who does it.

If they are coming at it from Australia, that must break all records for deep mining.

Peter it might make Australia easier to access for holidays with those tunnels that the miners create even if they do have a trouble with sea water seepage.

Jan & Peter, this is what will happen in the future.
Thanks to the foresight of todays Australian Government, buying up all coal reserves across the world, they will become the Dominant Nation State called the "Colony"
By 2048, all energy reserves will be depleted in the rest of the world, except for Britain.
British Miners will again unite together to form a resistance group called "BUMUFOB"( British Union Miners United Federation of Britain) with the sole intentions of keeping hold of our Billion of tons of Coal reserves, for use in Britain.
Australia will sink a mineshaft called "the Fall" and will try to send an army through the shaft, to force our British Miners to produce coal, for the "Colony" to survive.
However, the British Miners will have a Total Recall, bringing back memories of the last time we got our a--s's kicked and we will send the Auzzies back where they belong (weren't they banished their from Britain years ago?) and this time our "Proud British Miners" will win this war and keep British Coal, for Britain.

Hurraaaaaaaaah

So the license to mine coal in Britain is owned by an Australian company. So when they decide to mine the coal surely they will create thousands of jobs in the UK as I am sure no one will commute daily from Australia and only the profits from the mines will leave our shores less all taxes, no bad thing.
It has always puzzled me that the UK is an island with coal underneath it, verdant fields on top of it and we are surrounded by the sea which is full of food, why do we need the rest of the world?

Well Ken, if we don't need to shuttle goods across the channel in both directions, that's your job up in smoke!

Keith.
The Coal Authority is paying for the security on site, so it is being paid indirect by the tax payer.
What are you are doing to make things happen at Snowdown, please?

Neil.
Who me?
Ken.
I think you missed the plot a little bit but I have to agree that commuting daily from Australia wouldn't work, unless they paid good travel expenses.

.
Peter.
We don't need a shuttle for that, what we do export is not owned by us, so a bank is all they need.

Its not up to me to do f,,all or YOU ,,it's an industrial site doing nothing ,and we are paying for a local planning authority that should be helping to regenerate some employment out of it , considering their about to build 1200 house in Aylesham and no jobs for them
And it's a scandal the taxpayers have been paying out for the last 28 years for this site.
How much taxpayers money been spent ? what's charley boy been doing about it ?
