10:2675403As happened in the USA. They seem to have, overall, managed the partnership living well, making a better more stable culture. And it was all based on the immigrants integrating.

Whilst I probably support your aims, It should also be fair to say many so called
English people don't want other countries people to integrate, nor have anything to do with them.
Many may not speak English (take the wves of the Ghurka's) which i have a lot of working experience of, very hard to integrate.
Its also about welcomng this integration, which from my experience is a long way from being in place, and we to should take some of the blame
If we are honest

10:4675410It isn't about blame, it's about managing immigration - that means the state also making proper meaningful plans in advance: for English classes, for the local populations to be prepared, and for information sharing.

10:5575413BERN;
Being on the sharp end when this all got out of control in those early years it was appalling the way it was not organised.
peple fightng each other in there cuntries came to the UK and were put in the same hotel on the Folkestone road, as soon as the social services went home they were at each other with baseball bats and the agencies wondered why.
From the Govt, to Social services, to education, Migrant helpline
All need to have a plan
This didn't happen in the past, and we all know the results.
So on that side of things im with you bern.
The integraton bit will be a lot harder

11:1175425I welcome the integration as I like to learn about other cultures but if I cannot speak their language how can I talk to them. THEY have to make the effort. It is up to immigrants to integrate with us like those that came in the past.
Here goes

, the worst thing we have done as a nation is make it too easy for foreigners, every leaflet now seems to be available in too many languages so immigrants no longer have to learn our language, they even get a translator when they visit the doctor.
The first step to intgration is learn the language, full stop.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

11:1275427when i look around dover the problem seems to be the type of immigrants we are getting, a visit to some of their countries shows that we are not getting the typical inhabitant.
i doubt that many people in the czech reoublic and slovakia usue their back garden as a toilet.
those two governments brazenly advertised to a section of their populations that a life of milk and honey awaited those who emigrated to the united kingdom.

15:2975482There are two points I'd like to bring up here, one concerns PualB's idea of the economy needing immigrants, the other with regards to Bern's idea that we have - HAVE - to be open to mass immigration.
Starting with point 2, I'd rather quit Britain for another Country. I already work through British Columbia in Canada, and fortunately no law here prevents me from going! I won't harp on this one, but just want Bern to know: Bern, you don't speak for me when you assume that we have to be a mass immigration country, and I'm glad there's no law forcing me to stay here.
On point 2, Paul, may-be you could look into how employment agencies function in Britain: Our economy, as also the German and may-be a few others, depends on some, no, many, employers using cheap labour, and on agencies supplying labourers from eastern Europe - or wherever - who are prepared to be called by phone the evening before to know if they should go to work the next day or not. People who are prepared to work all week 12 hours a day sometimes, and other times two or three days a week, or one day a week, or no day a week, waiting for the agency to call.
We all know that you can't ask British or Germans in our/their own country to work like that, and we all know that once an employer has got many immigrants employed that way, he/she will keep to them, and when one leaved, another will take their place.
So what's the point, better to just quit and go to Canada.
I onlyu want Bern to know that you DO NOT speak for me with your millions of immigrants.
Now I really nust up and go! I've got to go to the barbers and may-be to get four photos taken!
Thank God there is no law telling me I cannot leave!

the problem is not with british employment agencies in the main, large employers contact agencies in low wage countries who then employ staff on the cheap from those countries.
