Barry
I remember that night but had to shoot off earlier than normal i.e. sober cos the landlord did not want children in the garden after a certain time which is fair enough but was ball aching for me!!!!

There's one in the wood for you at The White Horse, Jeanette knows all about it. I'm away at midday for a long weekend in France, so I won't be able to join you if you choose to imbibe this weekend.
See you soon, maybe we'll actually get a drink together someday soon!

And to round off my day, after the hellfire corner display in Pencester, an unplanned trip to The White Horse. I only went in for a glass of wine, and wound up meeting the above two gents, who were passengers on the Disney cruise liner with their wives. Both from California, they were enjoying the beers which Jeanette had to offer, and a very pleasant afternoon was had by all. I have their email address to send the images on, and I shall give them a good essay on the Dover forum, and tell all their freinds to visit us here in Dover. If you`re reading this chaps, come back again real soon, you`re all very welcome over here. Great talking to you both.

I`m sure they did Howard, and Jeanette is the ideal hostess. Interestingly, I was talking to a chap in there who`s a regular and I`ve spoken to before, and by something he said today, I found we were both at the same school back in the early 60s, he`s another Colin and a year older than me. I haven`t met anyone from that school for over 40 years! We both had a good memory of names, and some very funny memories of some of them.

Andy, many thanks mate, I drunk your good health on saturday, and as per the current thread, I revisited this afternoon, and just got home. If England lose their matches, then it`s Deutchland uber alles for me, as I`ve got Germany in Jeanette`s sweepstake this afternoon.

It looks lovely in the White Horse, especially the garden. As it is only just round the corner I am hoping to make it there sometime. (If there is somewhere to park the wheelchair!)

It's all up stairs I'm afraid Diana. If you can manage a few steps you'll enjoy the peace and quiet in the garden. I'm sure Jeanette will look after your needs refreshment-wise.

Rumour has it that a certain Oirish forumite was spotted in The White Horse this lunchtime with enough food on his plate to last the entire World Cup! Hope you enjoyed your feast, Paul...
What I hadn't realised until this week was that Jeanette is showing the entire World Cup in The White Horse; that, coupled with the fact that she's now stocking Highland Park (

) could mean a temporary au revoir to the comfy old armchair for the footie!

Andy, about five minute`s after your oirish forumite freind left, I arrived, to be told that both you and he had left shortly before my arrival. sorry I missed you both, (especially you Paul)). And shortly after you and Paul had departed, an army of cyclist`s arrived on the London to Paris cycle race. Here are a few of their number who patronised Jeanette`s establishment, and were happy being pictured and I`ve told them who we are, so hopefully, they`ll be looking in at sometime and stop by again soon.

Great to see you all today! It's always nice to see familiar faces and I appreciate the amount of support the Dover Forumites are giving The White Horse. I couldn't do without you!
Quite right that I'm showing all the footie games Andy & that's exactly what lured all those cyclists in today....that combined with the 'safe haven' garden for their precious bicycles! What I found amusing was the fact that they were gobsmacked that people swam to france for a hobbie but thought it was totally normal to cycle from London to Paris and not be embarrassed about the way they walked when they dismounted their bikes!! They looked like a load of ducks waddling around!
All round it's been an excellent week for visitors which started with many Disney cruise ship passengers staying in Dover the night before their departure. I had the pleasure of feeding them Friday night and you're right Howard, they love the old traditional pubs. They were very enthusiastic in conversation but thought the pork scratchings were a bit of a mistake!
I know a million ways to always pick the wrong thing to say

showing the world cup matches there has appeal, not sure about pork scratchings though.

Howard, there`s one in the wood for you mate, and after budget day, you may have to pay the difference, which could be phenomenal in the present financial climate.

As Howard says "a real pub has resurfaced in Dover and doing well". On the other side of the coin I heard yesterday that the Eagle has closed. Perhaps Jeannette knows something about it as it is on her patch as a member of LRCF.
No cracks please about "the Eagle has landed"

Yes indeed I was in there with daughter Briony yesterday and we had a great time. We had a bloody BIG lunch and although I couldnt manage all of it BrionyB certainly did. You know what these students are like.. they ingest more than the Hoover at the Hoover Dam

..two things they know how to consume, food and money!!
Was great to see both Andy and Jeanette as ever...a jolly and cheerful duo if ever there was a jolly and cheerful duo. Jeanette was writing her column for the Dover Express when we walked in but we soon put a stop to that !!lol
I didnt know about the London - Paris either. Last year I took pictures up close at it as had an invitation from Gwyn at the time. Some of you will remember the pictures, they will be in All Recent Features somewhere. Phil Medgett was also doing same but unless you get tipped the wink you never know.
Briony who is now back in London also expressed a desire yesterday to go and watch some of the World Cup in there..its all happening at The White Horse!

I think it was a case of being in the right place at the right time yesterday. Being a relatively newcomer in there, I`ve found it facinating the variety of life that appear`s in there, which brings me to the two Americans I pictured last week. I keep trying to send an email with the above picture`s, but the site is not recognised. This is what one of them wrote on a piece of paper, and all in capital`s. I have tried the lower casing by the way. KENT DUTRIEUX
