your p.c.s.o has a very large geographical area to cover, aycliffe into town.
our p.c.s.o. has a much more concentrated patch to cover is so more visible.

Credit where credit is due - a DHB WPC just came in asking for one of our guests. She had found his mobile phone in the docks, phoned a few numbers on the phone to find out the owner 's name, called his wife to find out where he was staying; she didn't know so she took down his car registration and found the car outside Blakes. Good detective work.

The Town and Pier Ward which includes Aycliffe has PC Tutthill and the PCSO. As Howard said they have a large patch with your ward but they also have the Castle Ward to cover as well.

Well done to the DHB WPC she certainly went to a lot of trouble.

"the chap will leave Dover with a good memory of our town", not if he saw the winos p1ssing up against George Locks wall in the Market Squ. as I did the other day in broad daylight. See the thread "Rather disappointed #11"
Well done to the police lady though.

there are the positives and negatives of this posting;
the police lady like many before her and many to come shoul be praised for her work which happens every day much sadly is not news worthy
but i don't know if it's me but there appears to be a large increase in the number of persons in dover heavily drinking(wino type) all around town now
spotte in market square, pencester, beaconsfield by the roa works on the church wall, not just a few here and there but over 20 at a time

yes it does seem to be on the increase, the bench behind the kebab shop and burtons is another place and sometimes even the museum concourse.

Then it is about time we (all of us not just the old bill and council) did something about it

They can be moved on Ross - but to where ?
Also, to move them on, you need a copper - a fairly rare sight in Town nowadays.

ROGER;
I think you have answered your own question, even if the police did move them on, it's just moving the problem, not solving it.
need a bigger picture than ust moving them on and leaving it to one agency to resolve all woes

We as a society need to decide what we want and then get off our backsides and sort it
For me i want the police to enforce the existing laws regarding public drinking, i want the local authority and relevant charities to offer counselling and assistance and i want the local authority and the NHS to provide proper rehabilitation services. I would also like to see work for sobriety type initiatives being offered to those ready and willing to take them. Of course this costs money and requires society to work together in the interests of all of the members of that society.
So that wont happen then will it - because we are not some exceptionally well heeled shire borough that doesnt have this problem anyway
Oh of course thats because their coppers moved it on to us

Ross, I agree but how do you square all that with the need to instil in people the responsibility for their own behaviour and for their own lives? And of course a respect for the law which their feckless parents did not teach them?

Indeed but if we do not start somewhere, we never will and it will only get worse

I do not think we can until, like smoking is now, peer pressure prevails and it is unacceptable to be like that.

We need to make some serious changes in society - I would start with
a) get teachers to educate rather than training kids to pass exams
b) recreate the old technical school and polytechnic system with associated vocational exams and courses
c) incentivise businesses to offer apprenticeships
d) review and modify the benefit system to encourage restraint on the behalf of recipients (e.g. limit the number of children supported, child support payments related to attendance at school, bonus payments for full attendance, bonus payments for exam passes, higher levels of benefits related to interview and/training scheme attendance etc.)
e) put minimum pricing on alcohol off sales related to strength of the drink
f) actually make community service orders a real punishment rather than a soft option, but one that genuinely benefits the community and does not take someones job away
g) rehab etc. for alcohol and drug offenders as mandatory requirements
