Yes it is tricky to get the public involved in these sorts of things and with the commitments I already have I don't have the time or energy to do anything else, I've already had to cut back recently.
I'm not sure what the answer is but whatever it is it needs to be easy and simple for the contribution to be made, otherwise it doesn't happen. It's a difficult challenge. I do know though that if something comes to where people already are, rather than expecting the people to go somewhere for it, it does seem to be a bit more effective. Are there coffee mornings, parent toddler groups, and other such gatherings that you could pay a visit to Roger, to get some input? Just a thought.

Just read and re-read the title of the thread... I think some people have the wrong end of the stick here...
So 'The Saga of Nigel' is missing. Where was it lost? Did Nigel himself lose it? What a tragedy for such a work of art to get lost....
Indeed, a piece of history may be lost to us - and the Norse Gods will weep and rain Thunder on us for our carelessness.....................

Thanks Claire and Bern.
I don't have time to visit coffee mornings to lecture/talk to people about Dover and how to move it forward.
One way though to "talk" to more and more people is to email them - with "blind" emails, about what is happening here, so you could - anyone could, give me their email address and I can tell thousands more about our local news.
Roger
Is there any way of Franchising you out Roger...? Do you have a band of helpers who can do the reachouts you don't have time for? I ask because presentations etc are one of my "things"......... but I guess that personal more informed approach from you direct is what is needed.

nigel stopped posting about two years ago, maybe one or two posts since.
i have no idea why he stopped.
Maybe Sue can give us a clue about the whys.............? I would have expected a local rep to use all possible means of communication cascade available to them.

nigel was one of the original members here and always gave informative posts, not over politicised.
So.......what went wrong...? Why is he no longer on here? I recall reading his posts with interest, and appreciating (as always) when a local rep takes the time to communicate with us plebs.......

It is hard sometimes for Councillors to post, possibly easier for me because I am in opposition which means I can have a go,but Cabinet Members sometimes have infomation that they can't reveal to anybody. Then when you do make a decision you are often the target of un-happy people and it is a non winning position.
Politically I am not with Nigel and I was one of the first to critisise him,but Nigel is a good man and we get on really well,in fact he was one of the sponsors of the DGYT Show, but if he does something that we don't agree with I would attack his policies again, but not him.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
Quite right too!!!
I don't think anyone expects local reps to post confidential or sensitive stuff, but we do expect them to communicate well and effectively.

Now, I'm just guessing here, but I would suggest that the two years since Nigel stopped posting coincides with him being elected a County Councillor. Perhaps it's not a done thing for a County Councillor to post on forums such as this.
Sorry to hear about your head, Nigel, hope you're OK.
True friends stab you in the front.
