as confirmed by this city analyst earlier, he suggested it was just a cynical ploy by mr sarkozy with a general election due in 6 months.
the french finance minister only yesterday laughed at the buy out idea.
i reckon they can keep this effort going until the election knowing the slow nature of eu bureaucracy.

Its looking less an less likely that the workers will take up the offer to run Sea France. Most of them are against the idea of the co op. One good thing though. SNCf are saying that the workers will all be offered jobs with SNCF.

thanks for keeping us informed andy, maybe the workers wanted to keep their redundancy money rather than reinvest in a dead duck.

Now Eurotunnel wants to get in on the act. They want to put up the money to buy the boats which the workers co-op could then run. Court case this morning at 10.00 french time.

Interesting. I shall have to put on my thinking cap to work out why they would want to do that.
Ah! Do Eurotunnel personnel in France belong to the same union?

Indeed Andy, just heard the news, Seafrance have well and truly gone out of business, a buy out by the workers just wasn't credible. 900 jobs gone, 150 of them here in the Port of Dover

Thanks for those items Andy from the other side of the channel. Yes the news has hit the airwaves here now and have just added it to our frontpage with our last ever picture of the ships docked in Calais. A shocking state of affairs really...really bad, all those jobs down the drain.

i would think that many be will re-employed at some stage, p & o could not handle all the extra freight and tourist business.
i suspect that one of the laid up vessels will come back into use, no idea who with though.
