  As I understand it the DFDS/LD bid comes up well short of the value placed on it by the receiver and they will not go higher, if Calais is blockaded we are in for Op Stack again

  that complicates things someone has to take over a couple of the ferries to keep things running on the channel.
  
  it does indeed look like operation stack will come into play soon.

  I thought there was also a union-backed workers' co-operative bid? That would seem the best way to go, both for the workers and for competition on the route.

  i heard on the radio this lunch time that seafrance has suspended services for 48 hours to safe gaurd crew,passengers and the ships.

  Yes indeed Brian all suspended. Very sad to see a harbour today with no Seafrance ships...and a nice collection of ships they are too. Very sad especially as people could lose their jobs. Its all in the lap of the gods now as we await official decisions.

  I'm sure the French unions would have played a part in SeaFrance's demise. Many people would have been put off of travelling with them due to not knowing whether they would actually sail or not.

  I've never travelled with Seafrance because their lack of flexibility but mostly their unreliablity when it comes to strikes...
