16:4280896Why would I choose to convert Euros to Sterling? plus that is the problem of those who support/use the Euro surely.
The Sterling Dollar exchange rate is at a perfectly sensible level based on the economic performance of each country.

We still have the pound note over here, low income tax.no corporation tax and are not members of the EU so I'm not sure it would fi in to your and mine pro european views but eh I have to follow the money wherever it leads me regardless of my political leanings.

17:0080905I thought the Channel Islands were not full members of the e.u., Marek. But if they are not members at all, then that is great!

17:0480906Brian, an idea: why don't you campaign for a referendum on the euro? If we could have a referendum on the e.u. and a referendum on the euro, that would be fair, as each person entitled to vote could express their opinion, and the majority opinion would become democratically binding on these two issues.
For example, the two respective majority views could see us leaving the e.u. and joining the euro, staying in the e.u. and not joining the euro, or leaving the e.u. and not joining the euro.
Tout simplement!

Not members of the EU full or otherwise. The EU try putting on pressure re the banking regulations but the island tells them to get stuffed we are in the black regarding our GDP although there have been some cuts none as bad as the mainland. The housing market is buoyant and some job vacancies are only open to residents and not migrants.

17:1580910Marek, I wish the Islands could join my voice to their solemn response.
Good to know that you like it there. Is the weather warmer than here, in general?
And do they still produce Jersey potatoes? Once one could buy them here, but haven't seen any around.

Yes generally the weather is about 3 degrees warmer than the UK.Today has been dry and sunny about 12degrees.Jersey Royal pots are still a large part of our exports together with tomatoes. At present there is a campaign to buy local produce so to save the farms and farmers..a large local white cabbage is about 50p compared with 50p a quarter cabbage from off the island.Milk is about £1.02 per litre. There is no VAT but a good services tax of 3%..The salaries are a lot higher here and crime is pretty low but we still have the problem with drink and drugs but there is a zero tolerance. You get booted off the island if a non resident and drug dealers are sent back to serve their sentences in their home country ie UK,Poland or Portugal which are the 3 main areas of concern.

17:3380916Good to hear that the Channel Islands are intent on maintaing a sane agricultural economy.
That's what we need here in Kent too! Local produce only, and importing only that what we can't grow here.
