10:4469701Christmas objects should be banned from sale until 1st December. People who buy Christmas objects before December should have their bank accounts frozen and credit cards removed and made to sit in a room playing Slade, "Merry Christmas" non-stop until 1st December. They would be allowed food and drink, mince pies and mulled wine only.
Companies that promote Christmas before 1st December (Tesco who start just after Easter for example), should be ordered to close until 1st December regardless of whatever else they may sell.
I love Christmas and try to make a big thing of it at home, but NOT in the middle of summer for heaven's sake!!!

10:5369709Hey, come on Marek, even you have to admit there is a huge anti-capitalist message in that posting of mine. I expected you and that other commie, Keith, to be celebrating my conversion!

10:5869716Stock up on Christmas gifts early??
If I see something when on holiday, or locally, during the year, which would be ideal for a gift, I put it away.
When Christmas comes I usually have a supply of things which I can give friends and family.
Also I try to make things people will like and use, which usually include Christmas cakes, biscuits, jams, chutneys, made nearer the time, in batches.
And keep in stock several bottles of wine for emergency gifts or raffle prizes.
These days chocolates are a non-starter with several friends who watch their weight or cholesterol... fruit is good...
What do other members do??

11:2069723NOW. Hold your horses there boys as its mainly WOMEN who get prepaired early for christmas im glad of the bargains and the help from such supermarkets to planning early . Im the one who does all the lists, thinks of the gifts, writes and sends the cards , arranges family and friends to the open house xmas eve, makes the xmas cake, cookies, crackers, decorations, kids school card lists, sending the gifts, buying the wrapping paper, cards, special cards etc etc etc if it was left until the 1st dec it would be a big scrum for everything and you wouldnt enjoy the spirit of the run up.

12:4069732thank god Sid isnt in charge of the bank account... because my cards would be frozen, all my favourite shops would be closed.. I am however looking forward to the mulled wine, and lots of yummy food..!!
I have been looking for Christmas presents since Jan, I like to be prepared, and if i can get some bargains and do all the christmas presents i want to get for friends and family for less than 100 quid then so be it.

15:0569750a lot of families on low incomes have to start buying things in september as it is too much to pay out for the excessive christmases we have nowadays out of one months wages.
we will have to wait for our susan to tell us about her childhood yuletide, when she was grateful to recieve an apple, orange and if she was really lucky, a walnut.

17:5969800done that myself, always buy my christmas cards in january.
the other thing is if you set aside say for example a tenner for each present, during the various sales held throughout the year you can give the recipient a present worth 2 or 3 times what you paid.

18:1369809Like the sensible others on here I buy presents when I see them. The only problem is when I put them somewhere safe and forget where.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.
