20:3566105Not sure I see your point, Vic. Competition is good for the consumer, but at the end of the day these trains will attract a different market to the ferries. The ferries will continue to be the first choice for HGVs and people travelling by car (ro-ro trade). Eurostar, and any potential new operator to Germany, appeal to those who are looking to travel without vehicles from city centre to city centre.

20:3966109Spot on Kevin. This is strictly "foot passenger", something that Dover doesn't do well.

20:4066110Fast city centre to city centre rail services impact low cost and scheduled airlines, not ferry company's. Also, travel on an inbound ferry and you can probably count the nonHGV JF's on one hand.

09:3474032It seems that DB plan to run through to St Pancras on October 19th using an ICE3, provided of course that it gets a saftey clearance. If I can get the timings I might camp out somewhere to spot it. If all goes well then the plan is to use the new ICE4's from 2013 on a Frankfurt (Main) - Cologne - London service.
The ICE4 is in fact a Siemans "Velaro D" capable of 198mph and is multi current to allow it travel anywhere in standard gauge mainland Europe using 25, 15, 3 and 1.5 kV supplies.

20:3174302Interesting that Ross. Now wouldn`t you think, that in this day of euro this, euro that, euro every f`in thing, that a passenger railway service would be running between here and the rest of Europe, or the french eurostar`s after more than 15 years would be running to Amsterdam and Germany????? Coaches and airline`s do, and have done since the wheel was invented! As you can see, my blood pressure`s rising here What is it about the railways that make political parties of every fancy colour you can think of, anti-railway? I know why, and it`s another reason why I have not voted for years. I`ve got no time for the lot of them!! Time to log off and go and read what life is really about.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.
